Exhausted but happy. Will blog about the Foodbloggers/KLue RSVP dinner, BC3 and “Readings” later, promise. For now, here’s a snapshot of my first reading ever:

A very special thank you to all you people who came out to lend me your support. You, dear readers, are simply The Best.

*Happy grin* too!
Oh, so sorry I missed it! I will come the next time. Hubby and me spent afternoon together. He keeps saying we don’t see enough of each other, thanks to my travelling. Thought of your reading at 3 o’ clock. What did you finally read?
You did well, Kenny.
Msiagirl,
Thanks for your email right before my reading. That meant a lot to me, and this particular bit made me laugh out loud:
“And breathe…in between sentences and look them in the eye. You’ll slay ‘em. We can call you Buffy. And just think, when you see me you won’t be a reading virgin anymore - and I am really holding you to a personal reading cos I missed this one.”
Yup, not a reading virgin no more. The audience in the photo above? They broke me in but good. Best audience a first-timer could ask for.
P.S. You’re on for the personal reading!
Xeus,
It’s the thought that counts, I know you wanted to come. Glad you managed to spend some time with your hubby — he obviously missed you.
I read I Am Woman and two pieces from Broken Mornings — Is This Missing You? and Only the Greatest Gets to Go.
*fingers crossed that there is a next time*
Lyrical Lemongrass,
I’m just so glad you and the rest of the FoodBloggers turned up. Your support meant the world to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Great job Kenny! Nice meeting you too..send me regards to Niza
Citygal,
It was great meeting you and KampungBoy! You guys are so cute together, and one of the few FoodBloggers I recognised because you guys actually post photos of yourself, haha.
The rest of them, heh, let’s say they are a bit publicity-shy.

Nisa says hi back… will email you and the rest once I upload the photos.
Listening to you read, I watched as the ladies hung on thirstily to your every word… Hahaha.
Nice meeting you again.
Dreamer Idiot,
Gosh, did they really? I just thought they wanted to jump me… for being so lame or something, heh.
It was great meeting you again, though I wish we had chatted more. Still, I noticed you having a fine time talking to my friend Henny. My very single and very available friend Henny, that is…
Looks like a total concert! Again, rather dissapointed things like these don’t happen in Kuching. :S
Haiyoh, headhunter turned “mui yan lo” (matchmaking guy)?
Kenny, I have one photo of you but you look like you have something growing out of the back of your head.
Eli,
Concert? Thank goodness I wasn’t the one singing then, but the talented Jerome Kugan instead, who came on after I finished.
There must be some events in Kuching…
Chet,
Eeeks! Delete that photo lah, I’ve plenty without back-of-head-aliens poking out, thank you very much.
Headhunter can hunt heads who are meant for each other, yes?
that looks like some crowd. betcha you drew them by the hordes huh?
WOW Kenny! I’m bowled over! Your work is something else! My friends and I were impressed! We were “wow…wow..woww” under our breaths LOL! You are indeed a good writer! I take off my hat to you sir!
When I saw your pic in Chet’s blog (the one with stuff growing from the back of your head)I actually thought you were singing into the mike while playing the percussions. Echoing Eli - how I wish these things happen in Penang.
Rorrrwwww ….
Oh. Oh gawd. Did you HAVE to name this post that, Kenny? Made me cringe (but well-chosen, all the same).
Congrats! Wish I was there to hear you in person. You must do more readings after I come back in July, tau?
And I still can’t see the pics on your blog
Congrats, Kenny! Just had to drop by to say “Hi!”
hope the pix turned out ok…
Whoopsies, I figured out what was wrong (Firefox, being the good dog it is, was blocking all images from PhotoBucket. Silly thing). Sorry to spam your wall
seems like u got alot of positive feedback..definitely will try to make the next one then..whens the next 1?? haha
DOuble Rowwwrrrr
Pat,
It was a goodly sized crowd, and friendly faces everywhere. I was very fortunate to get an audience as generous as this one for my first reading. Luck of the Cantonese….
The Quiet Storm,
I’m just glad I didn’t get booed, to be honest. Your comment just made me one happy boy. That and meeting you in person, my dear. You are one blogger who is SO much HOTTER in person, than your blog suggests, if that is even possible, haha…
Will you email you the pic we took together soon. What a shame I can’t post it. You people and your anonymity…

k.lim,
If only I were half that talented… Be thankful I didn’t actually sing that day else it would have poured from the skies! Well, if there aren’t such events in Penang or Kuching, why don’t you and Eli be the first to start some? All it takes is a dream…
G,
Er, rorrrwwww back? Double, triple rorrrwwww, have all you can handle, sir.
The Angry Medic,
O yes I did, after all the cracks people made about me losing my virginity, reading virginity that is. More readings? I must get around more, I must. I’d love to try something different the next time round. Looking forward to your return in July.
P.S. Glad you can see the pictures now.
P.P.S. Have you received my email yet or emailed me?
Nyza Nyza,
Thanks so much for coming! And for staying back after the readings too. You are so sweet lah. Now, may I ask when you and a certain mayhem-inducing machinist is gonna get it on?
lotsofcravings,
“Readings” are held on the last Saturday of each month — I’ll post up the exact details nearer to the actual date. As for me and my next reading — who knows?
Hey, anyone wants a blogger/headhunter/designer/fitness-freak who also writes to read at their next shindig?
—
?
My oh my … you are promising quite a bit with your rowrrrss …. but can you deliver
Bravo, Kenny. Hey, I’ve been wanting to wish you well in your new job but never got round to it yet. 30 days into your job and I hope you’re doing ok there. And all these litevents to attend, you must be wishing you’ve got 30 hours a day.
so you are from MMU…
must be Logan’s and Praba’s gang.
Dang you…
Oh, sounds like I really did miss out on a good thing. Never been to a reading before - sounds interesting. Real happy to meet you tho dint get to talk much during dinner. Hope to see you soon!
G,
Surely that depends on who I am delivering it to, right?
Lydia,
Thanks, dear! My new job? So far, so good, fingers and toesies crossed.
As for all the lit-events and food-events and BodyBalance classes (got quarterly workshop next weekend to boot!), I’m actually wishing I had 300 hours a day!
Henry,
Logan is the man! He’s in Korea now, teaching more delinquents on the finer points of debating. Watch out for the Korean invasion!
Tummythoz,
There will always be a next time — whether for a reading or a makan session!
See you round soon, too!
kenny, i would have loved to be there - but i was in manchester instead. and kl is so so faraway. But i know u’d do well.

Oh pretty please say its me, with my cherry on top
Well, aren’t you jumping to the conclusion that I’m still single? Hahaha… You’re right though. Henny is a lovely lady, no doubt, but shouldn’t you be dating her instead? (or has someone charmed you already *hint*), and besides, Henny and Machinist would make such a lovely couple together, no? Hahaha… we’ll wait and see.
Anyway, Machinist said she writes too, so perhaps you can encourage her to read her own stuff too. There’s a nice buzz and excitement for readings… and hopefully, this phenomenon will not only grow in numbers and variety/diversity, but in time in maturity, depth and sophistication. Yay!
Cheers. chat again another day.
*applause* That’s great.
Kenny,
You’re quite active eh? Seems like you’re never free!:P
Kak Teh,
*hugs*
That’s okay; I know you were there supporting me in spirit.
G,
Have I just been propositioned? Well, I never. Imagine that. O dearie me. Uhm…
Dreamer Idiot,
It’s Nyza Nyza you are mistaking for Henny. The way the matching went that day is more along the lines of Machinist + Nyza Nyza, and Dreamer Idiot + Henny. But I’m sure you can mix and match…
You young ‘uns these days. *tsk, tsk*
pizzofmine,
Thank you. Loves it when you drop by.
Kok,
Merely an illusion, sir. Just came back from a wonderful banana leaf dinner in Brickfields with Lyrical Lemongrass, and later, drinks at Bangsar. Non-alchoholic, unfortunately, but it is Monday night/Tuesday morning after all. One must save some decadence for the weekend…
Hey this looks gr8. BTW, wat is this event all about? Public story-telling? LOL!
Wow, sounds like you are having fun ;)!
kyh,
“Readings” is a series of monthly readings with the aim of encouraging new writing talent. It’s usually held on the last Saturday of every month, with a roster of six different writers each time.
Works read/performed range from ficiton/non-fiction, short stories to novel excerpts, poems to songs…
Come by next month?
Msiagirl,
After the initial bit of nervousness, it was a complete blast! Will write about this properly soon, promise.
wish i am there, wish i am there. anyway congratulations!
congrats, looks like a great success!!
oh my god those stools!!! I used to have one when i was a little kid and i played with it so much! flip it side way and is a small baby chair!
Enar,
Thanks, dear! It was great meeting you and your son at BC3 — I think he was a bit stunned by all of us. Hope I didn’t frighten him lah…
sulee,
I did enjoy myself muchly that day, even though I was tired from a long week and drinking the night before.
Stools? What stools? I was so focused on reading, everything but the words and the audience just disappeared from mind…
dont worry kenny, i ve been dragging my son everywhere.he actually enjoys it .
I meant having fun staying out till 2.00am eating banana leaf curry and drinks with Lyrical Lemongrass!
Those bamboo stools like the one Sharon is sitting on…big nostalgia for some as we used to sit in them as babies if you flip them on their sides they become baby chairs - I know a certain cousin who had her Mum fly one to London especially
Enar,

Sounds like he’s gonna grow up to become a blogger! What with being surrounded by bloggers all the time, heh heh…
Msiagirl,
Oh, I see. Yes, that was tons of fun! Nice to be able to relax for once with no curfew, what with today and tomorrow being public holidays. Time to catch up on some R&R, I’ll say!
Those bamboo stools are just one of many things that make Seksan’s such a fantastic place and venue for “Readings” — you’ll get a taste of it when you come down to KL.
And hey, I forgot about them being upside-down baby chairs! How cool!
Oops…. That’s one of the many good reasons why I’m single. I always confuse the names of girls, you see. Quite ‘blur’ in a way. Hahahaha….
Yes, both Nyza and Henny are nice ladies. I spoke to both of them. Does Henny write? She says she enjoys reading. It’s good for the local lit scene to see so many people getting interested in readings
Anyway, you needn’t include me in any matchmaking or pairings, as one of my lecturer once said, the fact that I was the only guy in a whole class of girls was totally wasted on me. Hahahaha…
Talk to you more next time. See ya.
Kudos Kenny!
Dreamer Idiot,
You can’t be blamed for the confusion; us four have rather similar names — Henny, Kenny, Nisa and Nyza.
Uhm, Henny does write… business proposals? (Though she’s suddenly inspired by my recent adventures with the foodbloggers to write her own foodblog. We’ll see where that leads, haha.)
And I’ll have you know I’m one heck of a matchmaker. Haven’t given up on you yet, bro!

pelukismelukis,
Heya! Thankee very much.
Congrats on your first reading! I’m so proud of yew. I’m dearly sorry i couldnt be there. Some issues kept me away. But we can always do it over the phone. A reading, I mean.
I love it when you drop by too. We should sleep together.
Now won’t that make the scariest story ever told in Malaysia. Ever. Even stephen king could bungkus balik kampung jual kuew teow one.
Hey Pot

Now, may I ask when you and a certain mutual friend with almost the same name as me, gonna get it on?
kG,
Thanks! Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll make it the next time, if there is a next time, that is.
pizzofmine,
Oh I can tell you scarier stories fer sure… And what’s this with my readers suddenly hitting on me? Some of the text messages would make a statue blush!
Nyza Nyza,
Baby, I rather get it on with you, if it weren’t for a certain deranged technologist lurking in the background. Seriously though, you two are so cute together… go out already!
P.S. Pot? Why are you calling me Pot?
heyy..u ppl surely had a great time. wished i was there…but oh well..i’ll be ther for the next one. congrats on ur 1st reading!;o)
p/s: miss me? LoLzz…=D
Pot… as in calling the kettle black!

spiffy,
Yes, we had a blast at “Readings” and I can’t wait for the next one! Make sure you turn up for May’s edition, ya…
Nyza Nyza,
Ooohhh… that’s just nasty. Uhm, I like?
will surely be there…no worries. ;o)
hey how come you all discussing my dating prospects without telling me :p
Dreamer Idiot is being coy…
um, Henny’s cute. Should blog, I’ll stalk.
aha. Actually shouldn’t it be mayhem-seducing machinist because I don’t invite mayhem, she just follows me around.
Henny, you were great.
I mean, Kenny, you were great.
O you “mayhem-inducing” machinist you… now I know what your tastes are like. Go ahead and seduce Henny, go on, I dare ya…
Sure… I’ll start by emailing her. Erm, mind passing it to me?
