Still busy with work and a move to a new apartment this Saturday, so I’m probably gonna be off from blogging for a while longer. But thought I’d drop by my own blog to announce this month’s…
“Readings”
Our series of monthly readings continue this Saturday with the aim of encouraging new writing talent.

Date: 26th May 2007
Place: Seksan’s, 67, Lorong Tempinis Satu, Lucky Garden, Bangsar (Click here for the map)Readers for this Saturday include:
- Wong Phui Nam
- Balan Moses
- Nora Adam
- Nicholas Wong
- Pey Colborne
- Bernice Chauly
“Readings” is the birth-child of Bernice Chauly, lovingly fostered by Sharon Bakar. We are grateful to Seksan and La Bodega for sponsorship.
Admission free and everyone is welcomed. Please pass on the invitation to anyone else you think might be interested.
(For enquiries contact Sharon 012-6848835, sbakar@streamyx.com)
I’m especially looking forward to hearing Nic, Bernice and Pey read. Which means I’ll rush over to Seksan’s as soon as my movers are gone. I’ve got no excuses not to go, so what are you waiting for? Best way to spend an idyllic Saturday afternoon, I say. (Especially since the night prior I’d be RSVP-ing with more glasses of Martell again…)
See ya guys there!

Update 1: Bad News — I won’t be making it to RSVP/Ninja Jones on Friday night as I have to pack to move on Saturday morning. My schedule’s full all week and Fri-nite’s the only slot available, so…
Update 2: Good News (?) — I’ve promised Pey I’d give her a private reading of one of my stories for awhile now, and a couple of you have asked me to read too, since you missed my reading last month, so I’m gonna do a short and intimate one, likely at a nearby coffee place right after the proper “Readings”. So, if any of you are curious, do hang around and we can go minum kopi and dengar dongeng this Saturday evening…

Don’t be off for too long though
Egads! That was a fast comment! I just posted the entry up!
But yes, would like to return to more regular programming as soon as things settle down. Hope to catch the pelukismelukis at “Readings” — okay?
spiffy poster
when you come off your break i’ll be there to throw confetti and pop open a bottle of sparkling grape juice.
Pat,

Sparkling grape juice sounds heavenly. If your confetti’s made of rice, why not we make risotto instead of throwing them?
Do hope you’ll be at “Readings” this Sat. I need a shot of Pat Low but badly!
OOh I didn’t realise I was ferrying around a VIP (Very Important Pey) this Saturday. Don’t worry, she’s in safe hands.
Unless, of course, my car breaks down again…heehee!
So when did u find time to do this gorgeous poster ar? I thought I kept u busy all night long last nite?
Lyrical Lemongrass,
Hahaha…. VIP indeed! Ya, do take utmost care of Pey; anything goes wrong and it’d be my head Mr. G be running after!
I guess “Readings” is my favourite, must-go monthly event, so I’ll make time for it no matter what lah. As for you, you cheeky hoochie mama, I barely got home last night after our dinner and desert before I got called out for mamak sessions! Aiyo, at this rate, how to finish work? LOL.
sigh, if only you could show the same dedication to food bloggers invitation to dine.
if you went there, we would have endless fun teasing someone about eggplants.
Miss ya, dun be away too long.
Kenny,
Thanks for leaving such a sweet comment on my blog. Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are like honey. They are sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body.
Henry,
O but I do! I’m heading to Ninja Jones this Friday nite with Nisa for the KLue RSVP dinner thing. All them food bloggers are a-gatherin’ there too.
But what’s this about eggplants?
FireHorse,
So sweet. Will hurry and be back ASAP.
mrshbt,
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are like honey. They are sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body.
So true, and your comments are always soothing to my senses. After my apartment move, I’m gonna take some time to catch up on my reading of your “Stream in the Desert” blog. I’ve missed too many entries already!
hey..you are back!..and this time i will know who is kenny..the 1 wif the hot chick..haha..
Hey Joe with a lot of cravings,
Well, not sorta back; more of dropping by to update y’all so there won’t be any rumours circulating that I’ve dropped off the face of the earth, hahah.
But here’s another update, rather sad one — I might not make it to Ninja Jones on Friday night. I’ve yet to pack my stuff and I move in five days’ time! So it might be for the best if I take Friday evening off for some serious heavy duty disassembly of my room…
But I’ll catch ya sometime, somewhere… Had nasi dagang breakfast with some of the floggers last Sat — where were you lah?
you’re just gonna pack everything on friday(in one day)? cukup masa ke? must be a very hectic week for you!
wont be joining you guys for ninja jones, do have fun (if you’re going too). was good to meet you on sat, though was too noisy to really chat..hehe
will pass u a ‘moving to your own crib’ gift the next time we meet
My dear, dear sc,
Yes, and it’s not one day, more like one evening! And there will be enough time lah, since I have had much prior experience in last-minute-packing, be it for moving house or travelling abroad.
O dear, this says a lot about my personality, doesn’t it? Very 11th hour sorta guy.
I’m giving Ninja Jones a miss for sure now that I know you aren’t going! With such a pretty face missing in the equation, it’s just not the same.

Yeah, would love to catch up with you again at a less hectic time, and a quieter venue to for chat/chat. And please, it’s really sweet of you but no need for any housewarming gifts lah — I think I just got the best one of all yesterday… I’m still smiling from it.
happy moving.do take good care of yourself with all the running around
i work on saturdays.
grr.
p.s: risottos are yummy.
Aiyo, just got back from Beijing and jetlag again. Anyway, I love the fonts you use…mind telling me what they are. I am running out of fonts to use.
hehe.. i do last minute packing too, but never when i’m moving house *salutes u*
now you got me all curious kenny, what gift did you receive recently that you’re still smiling from it?
Enar,
Thanks, dear. I appreciate your concern. Frankly I’m worried too about my health but perhaps I’m just too busy to fall ill, hahaha! No time to be sick lah…
Pat,
O what do you do on Saturdays? Colour me curious.
P.S. Yes, they are, aren’t they? Esp. when prepared with care and patience by someone you love…
Rasa Malaysia,
Welcome back from Beijing! Pity about your jetlag though, hope you recover fast. The font’s called OptimusPrinceps, I think. I love it.
sc,
What gift? Can’t say lah, but let’s leave it at I’m still smiling even now. I look like the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland… Don’t know how to stop grinning, haha…
if u have been reading my blog..i assume not..no wonder my unique visitors are dropping..you would have known i was playing chess with “chao gong” when you guys were eating..aka sleeping haha..
just got bad news also..might not be able to go as well!..sigh..hope i didnt cause elina too much trouble by dropping her an email last nite..
Joe with a lot of cravings,
Uhm, no I haven’t, bro. I haven’t been reading anybody’s blog or regularly blogging myself — this is more of me just dropping by and giving an update, but somehow I’m getting sucked into approving the moderated comments, and then can’t help replying to them… really teruk lah since I still so much work to do, haha. Padan muka kalau tak habis nanti.
And wow, did I start something bad? Why suddenly so many others not going to RSVP as well? Aiyo, Elina finds out, she’s gonna kill me…
Kenny you are back!!! Housewarming invite us yah?
Xeus,
Haha, no lah, not back yet. Just don’t want people to think I lenyap like a character in one of your “Dark City” stories. This post will let them know why I’ve been so busy and not blogging lah.
Housewarming sure will invite except at 382 sq ft, my studio apartment is mighty small. Maybe a pool party instead? (The pool is well designed but very small also!)
Some more, after moving on Sat morning, I’m rushing straight to “Readings” (hope to see you there this round ya) so no idea when I’ll even unpack, hahaha…
P.S. I’m definitely drawing a scene from BL this Sunday — found a model too! Looks perfect for the character, methinks.
You not doing your own READINGS this time round? Which area are you moving to? Well, see ya around when things are settled ;o)
wmw,
No, dear. They change the readers every month. However, I’ll be doing a small private one for Pey and whoever missed me reading the first time round like spiffy. Maybe at a coffee place nearby afterwards? We’ll see.
u’re gonna be off again?

i hv a suggestion: why dont u post a video of u guys at READINGS up here for us who’ve nvr had the chance to attend? i’m interested to see how it’s being carried out!
kyh,
That’s actually a great idea! Except I don’t have a video camera. Anyone going to “Readings” has one? It’d be so cool if we could get it done.
As for me being off, I originally thought this is just a drop-in cos normally I blog so regularly and visit/comment on other blogs so heavily. Maybe I should just settle down with the idea I may never return to that sort of frequency.
What do you guys think? Slow Kenny rather than No Kenny? Hahaha…
better than South Park Kenny, I don’t know how the poor fellow revives himself in time for the next gruesome death scene. Poor Kenny.
Henry,
“You Bastard! You Killed Kenny!”
Gosh, like I haven’t heard that a million times before. LOL.
Heyloo Kenny. Sorry I have not been dropping by, and also for missing your reading!
Have been caught in various attempts to balance university, work and someotherthingsidowithmyfreetime.
Hehe. Anyway, I desperately want to be there on Saturday! I wanna hear you read too. But I have some work to attend to before that. So, chances are I might miss Readings.
Not good. Not good at all. Pfft.
Thanks so much, Kenny
Will be there at Lit Bloggers’ later part of morning. Taking someone there out for lunch as thank you for editing Billy. Maybe see you at Readings…:)
not necessarily a video cam, all u need is a digital cam that can record movie clips or a cell that records pretty good vids, like those in Nokia N-series fons and Samsung. But be warned though, u must get equipped with a big capacity memory card if u opt for the latter options.

I’ll hv Slow Kenny rather than No Kenny, LOL! It’s better be late than never!
i teach kids speech and drama :O
p.s: i wouldn’t know. i’ve only had them prepared by chefs who are prolly sick and fed up of making like, the 50th risotto for the day
Kenny,
Remember to take a rest too!:)
kG,
Hey, bro — it’s the thought that counts! Good luck with your life-balancing act — I’ve been there before and it ain’t easy. But it can be done and glorious are the rewards!
Xeus,
Neither Sharon nor I will be able to make LitBloggers/BC4 but we will be at “Readings” so hope to catch you there!
kyh,
Thanks for the clarification/suggestion. Well, maybe if I can drag Henny there again, she can record me reading. Otherwise, I’m sure there will be future readings.
I’m beginning to panick a little — moving tomorrow and all I’ve packed are my books! I need a little miracle… and somehow I think I’ll get it.
Pat,
Somehow I knew you’d be good with kids. Brava!
P.S. O there’s a world of difference with the homemade variety. A pinch of love makes all the difference, ya know.
Kok,
Thanks and will do exactly that… maybe on Sunday? Today and tomorrow will be madness, I can tell ya that. *sighs*
Heyy Kenny..your “Readings” after the actual one sounds splendid. I’m still thinking whether to go or not..although i’ve told Chet, Xeus n QS that i’ll see them at BC4/Readings. Me cough and flu r getting worse..sighh…=/
spiffy,
Don’t worry, dear, if you can’t make it. There are plenty of opportunities for me to read in the future — I’ll just drag my manuscript wherever I go and read at a street corner if I have to. LOL.
Take care of yourself first lah. Health is wealth ma, as “our friend who goes to every breakfast club” is wont to say. That’s the only good thing about missing this round of BC: me and Sharon won’t have to deal with him, hahaha…
Kenny,
Hahahah…read at the street corner? Not to that extend la..i will at least drag u to a nearby restaurant or mamak. Heheh…;o)
Yeah, i’ll see how i’m feeling tmr then decide whether to go..or not. i’d almost forgot bout him. LoLzz..
spiffy,
Ya, I can read at the street corner while holding a yoga pose and draw a portrait with my free hand… a multi-tasker busker?
“Mari, mari, give me yer money…”
Hi Kenny - what a great line up for tomorrow! I’ve been missing you guys since the Readings I did in Feb. I’ll be thinking of you all. I’m thrilled that Pey will also be reading her work tomorrow - for those who can’t make it to the event, you can hear my podcast interview with Pey my blog at Fusion View where she also reads one of her poems - see http://www.fusionview.co.uk/2006/07/fusion-stories-4-pey-colborne-aromatherapist-and-poet-podcast/
Yang-May,
Thanks for the podcast link! I’m very, very excited about hearing Pey read her poems live. Wish you were here too!
It’s so nice to know you’ve been enjoying life and doing the things you have passion for and all. I can almost feel your pleasure when reading this post.
So you are upgrading to a new dwelling
Great to hear that. Do tell us more about it
All the best to your work and life.
Kleio da Muse,
Thank you so much for your well wishes. I think I’ve gotten most of my life in order for the first time ever, with work taking up most of the time naturally, but I’m getting there. I mean, learning how to be more efficient during office hours so I can have more R&R time for myself.
My new place is fab! Can’t wait to blog about it, but give me some time, okay?
