It’s rare that I write anything for anyone other than myself. I wrote “Only the Greatest Gets to Go” (collected in Broken Mornings) for my friend Sarah years ago, on a cold wintry evening when I never felt more alone in a sea of lab-rats… she had a laugh that could waken the dead and the fairies, and so I wrote a fairy tale for her.
And of course, everyone seems to think that 27 Love Songs was written for someone in particular. Well, maybe. 
This time round, I wanted to write something for a great friend of mine — we’ve barely known each other half a year but she’s like an old soulmate. Lush and wise and really, how often do I find someone nearly as filthy as me? 
She’s 100% woman and all lady, which is what I wanted to write about, hence the title of this very, very short e-book. But somewhere down the line, the pieces ran away from me… not all happy, happy stories, no, not indeed. More realistic, like Life, which runs in cycles, surely, seasons of love…
Happy Birthday, Lyrical Lemongrass. With all the stars in the sky, none shines brighter than your good heart and generous spirit. Thank you, dear, for making this boy’s life just that bit more special.
