Heaven

Wine, Roses, Candlelight...

It’s been more than eight months since I first posted about my new apartment (now not so new lah). I had just moved in at that point, and ecstatic to finally have a place of my own — just for me, me, me, me, ME. Plans were afoot for a housewarming (mostly by friends and readers, curious would-be-party-crashers…) but none really materialised with my ever busy schedule.

So much has changed in my life since then. Everything shifts, and it’s all getting better. The home sweet home has become a little slice of heaven. Today is a day that comes but once in four years. And a perfect time to share this haven of mine with you…

Dark Readings

Baby you’re all that I want.
When you’re lying here in my arms
I’m finding it hard to believe
We’re in heaven.

And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart.
It isn’t too hard to see
We’re in heaven.

Now, nothing could change what you mean to me.
There’s a lot that I could say
But just hold me now,
Cause our love will light the way.

Now our dreams are coming true.
Through the good times and the bad
I’ll be standing there by you.
(We’re in heaven.)

From a distance...

N.B. Lyrics taken from ‘Heaven’ by DJ Sammy. (One of my favourite BodyBalance tracks.)

  • Wow, so dis is how heaven looks like.…..one day maybe i will be lucky enuf to enjoy dis heaven.

  • funnily enuf, this song kept spinning in my head during my final exams, and i thought it was a sign that i was gonna die and go to heaven after sitting for the toughest exams in my life :/

  • *ahem* the lyrics were written and first performed by Bryan Adams. Nice place, can’t wait to crash your party. :)

  • hohoho…

nice laa your house!! Put mine to shame…:P

  • Firehorse
Naw… This is just one version of my heaven… I’m sure everyone has their own versions, their own little sanctuaries. I’m sure you will have yours, dear. *HUGS*

    Jun
Hahahaha… Oh you crack me up! Aiyo, I guess the heaven for you in this case is simply completing the examinations, no? :D

    A Lil Fat Monkey
Hehe. I know, but chose not mention it and waited to see who would be the first person to comment on it. Somehow, I just knew it’d be you, Mr. Music Maestro… ;)

    moja
Where got? Show me yours first!

  • yes of cors!! now i’m jt cruising thru my honeymoon yr, not having to worry abt preparing for exams :>

  • Jun
Honeymoon years are simply the best, eh? I miss all that and more! (Crazy post-midnight parties with endless-flowing beer and doner kebabs after in the middle of winter is one excellent memory. Go figure.)

  • hey kenny, Im back in Canada, so sorry I couldnt ring you up for a drink coz the schedule in msia was overwhelming…

    sorry :(

  • sulee
No worries, dear. I’ll come and visit ya one day… you owe me a drink — a teh tarik in Canada! (Wonders how she’s gonna manage that, haha.)

  • No need laa… imagine this, 8 lazy undergraduates sharing n living in a house in shah alam.. Wake up at 10am, sleep at 3 in d morn.. barely got time to kemas-kemas rumah…Got assignments some more… hahahaha… enuf said. :) get the picture?

  • You got me humming this Monday morning, Kenny Mah. Wah, your apartment is so romantic (or is it Kenny Mah who is so romantic?). Quite a difference from the last time (the apartment, not Kenny Mah).

  • moja
Oh I got the picture alright. Hahaha… Ah well, one day you will graduate and move out, join the rat race and get a place of your own… That’s when the real problems start… :P

    Lyrical Lemongrass
Have I now? And what tune were you humming? “O let’s find Kenny Mah’s apartment so romantic (or is it Kenny Mah who is so romantic)”?

Hahaha… I’m not making sense, am I? It’s far too early for me on a Monday morning…

  • could have easily been mistaken for a fine-dining restaurant…kinda like the apartment+cafe cafe divide by 2. put on some barry white or marvin gaye and it’s a groovy little piece of heaven, no doubt. just chillin’ out, just chillin’ out.…

  • Nic (KHKL)
Fine dining? Are you kidding? I don’t even have a proper kitchen! Any dining would involve take-away or potluck style muhibbah makan for sure.

On the other hand, Barry White and Marvin Gaye is very much a part of this lowly establishment, but also with some modern strands of Sigur Rós and Me’Shell Ndegécello. Seduction has never tasted so divine…

(Uhm, did I say seduction? I meant chillin’ out. Yeah, that.)

  • wow, candles, my favourite. so, when do we get an invite to the hall of flame?

  • fatboybakes
Hall of flame? Maybe a hall of shame compared to your grand abode. But yes, I am figuring something out now even as we breathe and blog… ;)

My place is small so I’m thinking a series of small weekend dinners for selected company. Now me wonders who shall be so honoured to dine in your gracious company? Hmm…

  • haha, i bought lotsa instant teh tarik home, ill tarik it myself for you!!

  • sulee
Wah… Will they last or not? I may not head your way anytime soon. But to see you ‘tarik’-ing it for me personally? That alone is worth the air fare!

  • wah..so romantic on the border of being over eerie..loved the red wine..you really know how to enjoy urself ar..which reminds me..i need some red wine..

  • lotsofcravings
Eerie? Where got? I’ll have you know that most nasty spirits avoid me on account of my overly-cheery sunshine-y Carebear personality.

But we are kinsmen on the red wine bit. Bring on the reds and let’s get merry! :D

  • soooooo cantik your place. i was around your area last nite…wasn’t sure where exactly your place is tho…

yunno i used to light loads of tea lights and candles at my condo…that was when there were two lah…

now that it’s just me, i sudah malas :P so now i have 150 tealights and no reason to light up!

  • hoho, I have to hire an Indon bibik to get my house neat like that. Haa…One more thing, I think you are a really, really romantic person laa Kenny… Unromantic person like me will dun even know how to arrange those roses in that transparent vase! Hahahaha :)

  • ohh i like that song

  • dimly lit environment is always romantic i guess.. but seeing those candles being so near the books got me a lil worried too..hahaha

  • Yin
Next time just give me a tinkle, and I’ll direct you as best as a geographically-challenged dude like me can.

And at the risk of sounding self-absorbed, why can’t we light loads of tea lights and candles for ourselves?

Why does most people assume these candles were lit for someone else? I would very much light them for me, myself and I.

Spending some quality time alone, curled up on my day bed, with the lights dimmed low, a good comfort read and soft, sensual music… that’s romantic to me, dear.

… but if you have 150 tealights, and a Kenny Mah comes over to your condo, how many would you light up? (Mathematics 101)

  • moja
Hahaha… Me, I’m too cheap to hire someone else to clean my house when I can do it myself. Plus, I’m so anal about cleanliness and tidiness, I’d prolly be hounding the poor woman, picking stuff after her and nitpicking at every detail.

    (Gosh, I sound like a demon, don’t I? Bleargh.)

As for being romantic… it’s all in the mind. There are opportunities everywhere. Like, it’s raining a lot of late, yeah? Say you just finished your dinner with this lovely girl, and it starts pouring… and you run with her to the car, huddled together closely under a wee lil brolly… and once in the car, you daren’t drive yet cos it’s wet and dangerous, and the windows start fogging…

Well, you can figure out the rest. Can we all say Titanic-fogged-up-carriage-handprint scene, everyone?

(Am I corrupting the minds of young Malaysians here? Doubt it. They prolly do a fine job of that themselves. Heh.)

  • teckie
That makes the two of us. :)

    sc
Trust you to think of that!

Let me assure you I treasure all my books dearly and would never let them come to harm. Plus, if anything catches fire, I’ll just grab the vase of roses and pour the water in it over the flames!!! Hahahaha.…

  • Too dark, cannot see! Only see many candles candles burning bright. Now…it’s a good feeling to move into a new apartment, ya?

  • And to think I never watched the Titanic…thank you for sharing your space with us, and I say yeah! Must light candles for our own souls. In fact, I’ll go light one now in broad daylight but it is a yummy cinnamon and orange one.

  • tigerfish
It’s not a new apartment, dear… but after getting a new day bed and dining table and a little re-decorating, it really feels like a new place! It feels just right. :)

    Msiagirl
“Must light candles for our own souls.”

That is just beautiful dear… *hugs*

  • You’re sooo into candles huh .. yes you *wink*

  • ImbiNithcy
Indeed, I am into candles… Hot wax: what’s not to love?

  • my my! a nice setting and with the right lyric to accompany!

  • lift up my head — neck long — eye forward — Friday — 4 soul

  • your place is definitely looking good dear.. love the way u put those candles.. =D

  • enar arshad wrote:

hi.thanks for all the comments, you are inspiring me to write after a long silence

  • thewailer
It’s all about the accompaniments, innit? :D

    imeau
Friday for the soul? Gosh, I hope so. As a matter of fact, every day should be forward for the soul, no? Candlelit dreams and heavy eyes wandering toward sleep…

    Spiffy
Hehe, there were more, but I really take awful pictures so I didn’t put those up… these three were the only half decent ones, unfortunately.

    enar arshad
It’s great that you’re writing again, dear. It’s not the silence that matters, but the mysteries we unravel in its length that makes it worth the while… *hugs*

  • wow. i mean, wow.

your house is so… romantic. so… you. i think it would make a great honeymoon house. heheheh.

you have nice taste in decor design, kenny. ^_^

p/s — i love candles but i always get paranoid that i’ll get burnt to crisp in the morning. T_T

  • Zaty
Aww, you’re saying that cos you’re so sweet. And since you’re not the only one who has this concern about the candles burning the place down, let me assure all of ya I put them out before heading to Dreamland…

(Well, not really. There was that one time when I opened my eyes in the wee hours of the morning to a wholesome glow… beautiful, simply beautiful, but then, I had to drag my lazy ass out of bed and snuff each and every one of them. Sighs.)

  • Love the song but I have terrible balance. Give me BC anytime!

Why is your house so dark? Can’t see anything la!

  • Piggles
BodyCombat is my second love… but haven’t been to a class in ages. I’m more of a BodyPump freak these days…

Hey have we ever met in person at the gym before? Sometimes I get messages and emails from folk who have spotted me but never came up to say hi. Don’t lah shy-shy…

My house dark? Well the better to do dark deeds with… Can’t see anything? That’s the entire point, dear…

  • many, many candles :)

one candle for each time you greet me in the morning in different languages…

and a candle each for bringing a smile to my face and a chuckle in my heart :D

  • Yin
Wow. So sweet. That means how, ar? 150 candles cukup tak? Maybe it’s time to buy some more leh… Sales on ma…

  • I was going to comment about Bryan Adams being the lyric writer for the song, but that’s old news now ainnit. Haven’t been here in a while — I’m glad for you mate — having my very own place would be heaven too!

  • wirlernendeutsch wrote:

Beautiful lighting in your apartment, K. But I keep thinking are those candles fire hazards?

Oh, this is Argus, by the way. (Started this other blog for my ex-classmates from my Deutschkurs.)

  • I thoz will c her in yr loving arms in heaven but …next time eh

  • Yuri
Well, if it makes you feel any better, you’d have been my other guess for the bloke who’d know this lil piece of trivia. Musicmeister Yuri-san! :D

    wirlernendeutsch
Oh Argus, I think you forgot to leave the URL for the blog. And see above comments for fire hazard disclaimer.

    tonixe
Wah, you’re even more of a romantic than me leh… :P

  • Does your little heaven always lit with candles? :P

  • that looks like a very nice and cosy place! bila house warming? can people from elsewhere come and gate crash too? hehe…

  • jason
Well, that is for me to know… and selected individuals to find out… ;)

    keropokman
Bila housewarming? Man, my readers and friends have been waiting since last May. Doubt a big proper housewarming will happen but small, intimate dinners of four pax (cos that’s all I can seat at my new dining table) are well on the way… Pics may appear on this blog… Hehe.

  • Nice place.Warm and cosy…
Looks like you have a lot of book hor? No wonder you write well =)

  • gah. i hate times like that. when you KNOW you have to so something, but everything’s so comfortable you have to struggle with yourself to do it.

like when you ‘accidentally’ fall asleep in the duvet, all warm and snuggly, but realise that you forgot to switch off the doorway light. >___O

  • Jojo
A lot of books? No lar… only a few… You should see my collection back in my hometown…

    Zaty
Yeah, yeah, yeah! Exactly. It’s such a bummer. But hey, I crept right back into bed, I assure you, snuggled against warmth and warmness and the scent of love…

  • Hi Kenny, your apartment looks fabulous! I wish I could be in KL to come along to your housewarming (this is assuming I would be invited if I were — how presumptious of me…)

  • Ah, it’s back to my old handle *phew!* Kenny, all the tags and buttons are in German for wirlernendeutsch.wordpress.com and I haven’t a clue what’s what. See how bad my Deutsch is?

Isn’t it lovely to be setting up your own nest? I used to buy second-hand furniture when I was single, thinking I’d set up my own nest with a loved one one day — but that was a bit of a mistake. I should’ve indulged in new stuff from day one, the minute I could afford it. ;-)

Oh, and I loved to buy different designs for crockery (a friend noted that it was very Carrie Bradshaw of ‘Sex & the City’ but I hadn’t watched the series then and didn’t know about it). Whatever caught my fancy.

  • Yang-May
O if you were in KL, you’d be invited over in a heartbeat, dear! :)

    argus
It is amazing setting up my own ‘nest’ (as you put it) — nothing quite like it. But the best part isn’t having it all to yourself (though the private sanctuary bit is important, oh yeah), no. The best part is sharing it with friends and loved ones… :)

As for crockery… I have them in all sorts of designs too, but mainly cos I “borrowed” them all from me mom without her knowing!

You think your German is bad? Mein Deutsch ist schlechter. Try five years of not speaking it… :P

  • hha… lovely place u got there. Cozy with a nice ambiance. good choice. =)

  • what a romantic crib you have there..am struggling hard to gather the down payment for a proper place right now..

  • wah, so many candles. make sure you blow every single one out before you hit the sack! hehe.

  • So, uh, are we having that housewarming then? :P

  • Mmm…will try singing this song next time when I go karaoke :o )

  • daphne
Thanks… it does have a nice ambiance, something I’m planning to use to full effect tonight.. a lil dinner for my BodyBalance friends! :)

    citygal
Take your time… nothing like your first place! I wish you all the best! *hugs*

    essentric
Yes, yes, I do… and make a wish every time I blow those candles out, haha.

    Leen
    Housewarming? What housewarming? Tee hee.

    wmw
Eh, don’t forget to call me when you go karaoke… we sing it together-gether, okay? ;)

  • now i know that heaven truly looks like.…nice pad you have there.…can i visit you some time ?

  • Toh
Sure, you can visit — just remember to bring a bottle of red.

  • […] (Check out the pics!) Their presence absolutely lit up my lil haven and truly made it feel like a small piece of heaven… […]
