Lines of Beauty

Afternoon Tea by Lao Kuang

“Afternoon Tea” by Lao Kuang (remixed by Kenny M.)

I.
I am terrible at remembering lines of poetry. They are like rays of light on a winter’s day. Here one moment, gone the next. You can’t ever capture them, not for long. They escape, always. But beautiful nonetheless.

(I have experienced Beauty even if I am unable to hold her in my dreams.)

II.
Do you long for me to recite verses of love to you? I fear my memory may fail me, but trust me, my dear, where words are forgotten and lost, I still know my way back to you. In this life, in dreams, always. I can only escape to you.

(I will pen no lines of beauty but for you. There is no beauty but you.)

[Part I inspired by Msiagirl and Nic (KHKL). Part II dedicated to The Devil Wears Prada.]

  • your passion for literature is strong eh?

  • Nice “remixing”. Asia Cafe (?) never looked this good!

  • O dear…for you being there in the airport upon my arrival…you were simply wonderful!

    *hugs*

  • Hello, lovely. I am complimented by being a little bit in your blog, thank you.Wishing you another special weekend ahead and hope to catch up with you soon. ;) hugs!

  • Bro … next time if you need a guy to model in your pix, let me know as you can book me … for free, but no porn stuff! lol! muahahahaha!

  • zewt
I doubt I have any serious passion of literature, bro. What I have is a passion for passion itself, and writing/literature/whatever-you-wanna-call-it simply gives me the most natural avenue to express this passion.

That and the Passion itself. :P

The original by Lao Kuang was pitch-perfect, stark and nostalgic. But I needed something more dreamy for this piece, so… a Photoshopping we will go… ;)

    imeau
The look of surprise on your face was worth it all. :)

    *HUGS*

You are always an inspiration, dear. Hope to catch you in town the soon-iest! Loads to share with ya! *HUGS*

Aiyah… why does everyone think I do porn? Oh yeah, there was that time… *tries to look innocent*

  • tht’s not u in the pic, issit? who’s lao kuang btw?

  • u did porn???

  • Jun
Nahh… not me in the pic, I’m not that good-looking lah. Lao Kuang’s the photographer, a really good one at that.

    Neil
I would find it difficult to answer this in the negative.

  • are you sure you dont do it? a search on google shows.… LOL

  • keropokman
Omigosh… I tried googling ‘kenny mah porn’ and the first two hits it came up with are:

    1. KennyMah.net » Life for Beginners (my website!)

    2. Romance: Chick Flicks vs. Soft Porn (a blog entry of mine from last April)

    Yikes!

  • haha luckily thats all that came up from the google search =P

  • Hahaha…
Porn? Hahaha.. Kenny, I ‘cilok’ your “about this blogger” pic to put it in my blog for link image.. :P

    just don’t sue me!

  • you have such a romantic soul la! everything you write sounds so romantic one… :P

  • Neil
Of course! Whaddya think I am? Another Edison Chen?

    moja
No problemo, dude. Thanks for letting me know. I don’t sue readers lah… though I do have a battalion of lawyer friends. Hmm… Lawyers are a blogger’s best friend? :P

    lingzie
Life is one big Romance, after all, dontcha agree? We don’t live to die but to fill the space between our birth and our passing with as much meaning as we can possibly measure. And my meaning seems to be lovelovelove…

For me, there is no escape (nor would I want anything but). It’s everything, really.

  • forget about remembering
for beauty is in the heart
    forget about forgetting
for truth is perpetual, is art.

    of self-indulgence
    of becoming an influence
    I’m humbled by your reference
    I’m embarrassed by my nuisance

    (cant believe I inspired you..hehe)

  • lines of beauty shud be drawn over your dream girl and pressed deep within so that time does not move and then you dun remember , except you want more right !?

  • Reads like you’re in the mood for love… :o )

  • Lol…u kena crown “porn” huh? This is so funny!
NIce pic, lots of hidden emotions. I wonder how did pakcik nic inspired u? Hehe…

  • my oh my oh my .… O.o

    Thats a yummilicious guy .… (( drool ))

  • so seriously — what porn is this???

  • Nic (KHKL)
    I forget to remember
    For my heart knows always
    I forget to forget
For my love knows no days…

    It goes on and on
    Like that damn Titanic song
And my friend, you remind me
That true love can do no wrong.

For what love may have wrought
In my little foolish blog stories
It is you, my friends, who spur me
    To write mush without worries.

So while I dedicate my prose purple
To the One Whom I Love and Lub,
I can’t neglect the good people
Who spark my constant babble and blub…

  • team bsg
Oh, we all want more, don’t we? Sometimes it isn’t about wanting more though, but instead looking at what we have before us and being grateful for it. And celebrating this good fortune of being in love and being loved, for there is no better feeling in the world…

Okay, I’m gonna stop the mush now. (Or at least try. Heh.)

    wmw
My dear, I am ALWAYS in the mood for love. ;)

  • JOjo
A lot of ‘hidden’ emotions? I guess you are referring to the pic cos the prose obviously doesn’t manage a decent job of hiding anything!

As for inspiration, it wasn’t just Pakcik Nic lah, Kakak Msiagirl oso ma… I left a comment on her blog entry on the Spring Fairy that made me ponder on poetry and beauty.

Pakcik Nic, on the other hand, got me thinking about the fleetingness of beauty with his post on sakura-blossoms in Japan, which can be construed as his ohana-chan. Either that or a bevy of porcelain-faced ladies… ;)

  • G
Hahaha, I’ll be sure to pass on the message! :P

    Neil
Haiyo… I better come clean or else you lot will be guessing at 101 other things far nastier than the reality of it.

All the porn this humble blogger ever got involved in was selling naughty drawings on sheets torn from mathematic exercise books (surprisingly anatomically accurate) to my fellow primary school classmates for a pretty penny.

What can I say? I was an entrepreneur from young. Or an underage pornographer. Take your pick?

  • how do u remix a picture?? can teach me ar?

  • lotsofcravings
Hehe. ‘Remixing’ just refers to me Photoshopping the heck out of an original image.

Sure, can teach… but malu lah… I am such a rank amateur at this compared to the professionals… :P

  • Beauty is a perception..thus in the eyes of the beholder. Heee.…sometimes being able to “hold on to beauty” anchors a sense of not being real…is it true?

  • maymay wrote:

So romantic! Wish u are still available! Are u? hehe. ;)

  • maymay wrote:

*blushes* Hope that’s not too forward… I’m such a fan of your writing! :)

  • tigerfish
Very true, in fact one of my favourite Chinese proverbs go “cheng yan ngan lui chut sai see”, which pretty much means the same. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

But let me stress it goes far beyond the physical (though in most cases, there is usually some physical attraction and acceptance), but beauty in action, in the way we make love a verb. It’s hard to describe but we all know it when we see it, feel it.

We can’t really hold on to beauty in any sense, but we can give thanks for it, celebrate it… :)

  • maymay
Uhm, wow. I’m pretty sure I am blushing even more than you now. Colour me tomato and call me an apple. :P

Thanks, so very flattered. (Assuming you didn’t mean this as a joke, in which case I shall hide behind a rock now, never to reveal myself again. Ahem.)

But yes. Very much taken. Off the market. Unavailable. Yes. Sorry?

  • All these talk abuot love and poems.

Ah… let me ‘borrow’ this hymn written by Frederick Martin Lehman. The words are so poetic! It is indeed ‘lines of beauty’.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
    Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

  • well said, dude…

porcelain-faced ladies or cherry blossoms…aint they all the same? beautiful against the blue cloudless sky…

sorry for not being to rhyme now…my “battery” is running low now…i even missed 15 mins of nigella last fri..haha!

  • keropokman
Wow, thanks for sharing this hymn, bro. It is beautiful, truly beautiful. Words enough to make a grown man cry.

    Nic (KHKL)
You missed Nigella??? Man, I know you’re tired for sure! Hahaha…

  • No beauty but you” — you in love or what? ;-)

  • argus
Yes. Yes. Yes. Completely. Utterly. Yes!

  • u know, it’s kinda odd… i was jz telling zewt that watever u guys write on ur blogs on that week is watever i was feeling… sounds creepy?? imma not making it up… >.<

i know this comment is outdated but i still remember the feeling wen i first read this on google reader (thanks to u)… but cudn’t comment (no thanks to proxy settings which explains the lack of comments lately)… basically a warm n fuzzy feeling… and my heart smiled… the rest i shall keep for ur nxt post… :P

  • asstha
A warm and fuzzy feeling is a good place to start, no? I shall now look at your next comment and see what’s what.

P.S. No lah, where got creepy? It’s only natural that you might happen to click with what Zewt and I wrote on our blogs, since we tend to read blogs (or any material for that matter) that we connect to on some level. Having said that, Zewt’s blog is far less mushy mushy…

  • Did you pass on the message :D ?

    Do I stand a chance? :D

  • it was… cos at that time wen i read this post i was feeling on top of the world, so to speak… somehow between then n now… =.=

  • G
Un-a-fortunately, the reply is in the negative. Sorry…

    asstha
Then and now, that’s everything, isn’t it? That feeling on top of the world — treasure it in the moment, but know also that while the moment may or may not return, the feeling will. Believe that, dear, believe that.

you are really good. I love reading your blog. I am a frustrated writer so i just decide to create this blog. btw, are you also chinese? coz of your last name :)

  • equilibrium2008
Haha, aren’t all writers frustrated? That’s what impels us to write, no?

Just kiddin’. I know what you mean. Writer’s Block can be such a dreadful shadow over us wordsmiths. And blogs are a great way for us to express ourselves in any way possible… it gets the juices flowiing for sure.

P.S. Yes on the Chinese. The last name is a dead giveaway, no? ;)

  • well … can’t blame a guy for trying.

    Oh well … another single-filled year .…
