Where Have All The Hours Gone?

Where did all the hours go?
Didn’t time use to pass by slow?
Maybe the clocks now turn too fast
We aren’t even done with the past
And it’s already tomorrow.

Where have all the hours gone?
Mysteriously from bed till morn
Someone halt this temporal theft
We haven’t arrived before we’ve left
Feeling weak, weary and worn.

Where did all the hours go
In this busy life full of woe?
We move quicker from A to B
Yet when we finally pause to see
What have we got to show?

Where have all the hours gone?
Between work and play we’re torn
Don’t we miss our friends and family
And just being stupid and silly?
When will we ever be done?

Where did all the hours go?
All this pointless bustle really blows
So I say we gotta find a new way
To beat the blues on this fresh Monday
Or else pay for what surely follows.

Where have all the hours gone
From the second that we were born?
Who cares? This ain’t a test.
All we want is some damn rest
Before all the good fun is gone!

Hahaha, the choice of words in your phrasing suddenly reminded me of the radio hit ‘Stop and Stare’ … I mean, I wanna stop, but not to just sit down and stare dumbfounded at the world around me… :P

  • The hours are still there.
It’s still keep as accurately by the atomic clocks.

We are just preoccupied with useless stuff and fluff. sigh…

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

Too true. That’s-a-why we have to work at removing the fluff from our lives so eventually we work less and get to rest/play/have fun. Or else we end up completely exhausted with our tongues rolling out like a certain someone in the second picture above. Ahem. :P

  • Haiiih..

    Time won’t wait Kenny.
Let’s stop procrastinate and let’s so things we wanna do!

Before all the good fun is GONE!
    :P

  • the good thing is that everyone has 24 hrs! Just a matter on how we use them or prioritise!

Oh no. I got to rush to my next appt! oops.. *waves*

  • I’ve learned days are long, but life is short.

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

That’s what I keep telling myself: Time won’t wait. What’s stopping me from doing what I really wanna do?

And there’s so MUCH I wanna do before the day is done…

    » daphne
    LOL!!

    » Jemima
True, but ain’t it true also that the days are also getting shorter? :P

  • I dread Mondays. Like how I’m feeling today. Slow paced, mundane, and endless work to be done. I’ll jump for joy if the weekend consists of 3 days instead of 2.

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

Guess what? I think some countries do have 3 day weekends! Lucky citizens, no doubt.

What would you do with the extra day, though? I’ll prolly spend it SLEEPING! :P

  • what face reaction lai?

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

Mostly a reaction to non-stop tedium and all the woes of the world falling down on one’s shoulder.

Suggests spa retreat as ideal solution. Any sponsor? :D

  • i hardly ever use the word “time” these days.
everything has been reduced to “moments”.
and “winks” when it comes to sleep.

thank goodness for celebrations like mooncake festivals to remind us of those good old days of candles, lanterns and of course, mooncakes. :D

Ah, the Mooncake Festival. Or Mid-Autumn Festival, as it were. I’m not sure I’m looking forward to that anymore. I’m so stuffed with mooncakes already!! :P

  • kenny, where did all the years go? I believe it is the work of the same time thief.

and a word of advice — stop frowning like that. hehe!

  • ya man, where have all the hours gone? It’s kinda frightening when I start to “analyze” the hours.…yucks! There are people who think hours are gone fast and so put their schedule so full –they want to accomplish the most in this lifetime; YET… there are people who think hours are gone fast and has already learn how to slow down. But now I’m put in the middle of a mad rush again!

  • In the Islamic prophecy, correct me if i am wrong, one of the many signs of Judgment day is basically time hasten up drastically.

    Yikes.

And what did me Mum said about frowning like that? That the wind would change and my face would be stuck that way? Oh the horrors!

    » tigerfish
I think I’m one of those people guilty of cramming their schedules full of activities… Need to decompress…

    » Leo
Again, horrors of horrors! Yikes and double-yikes!

  • Does a chrono watch helps?
Remember a Korean documentary on a writer that in order to focus and have time he locked himself up in a room for a year and his wife just pass him the necessities, now got time? Hei I didnt ask you to be locked up in Ivory Tower?

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » JENCOOKS
If you were to lock me up in a room (or an ivory tower), make sure to pass me plenty of DVDs and three-kilogram jars of Nutella. And chips. And OJ. And… well, maybe just the hotline to the nearest grocery mart with a delivery number. :P

And aiya, what bow bow? It is I who is truly not worthy…

    *bow, bow*

    Yessss!

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » Moja
Or better yet, be a mutant like the Multiple Man — make as many clones of yourself when you need them and then absorb them back when you don’t need! How cool is that? :D

  • Agree, agree!
Hahahaha. That sounds cool too! Fuiyoh, I will never late for classes and lectures ever again.

    Geez banana.

My stomach has been singing all day long. I better get prepare to brake-fast.
    The minutes are so sloooooooooooooooooow.

  • 24 hours is alwiz not enough for me.…. how great if there is 25 hours a day..

  • Whoa, you got one clone on the loose. Now, you have to track ‘Kenny’ back, dude! He’s in Adelaide!

    :P
Maybe the idea of cloning wasn’t a good idea after all.
    Hahahaha.

    » Moja
Hmm.. having clones running around ain’t what worries me… It’s what they’re doing in my name and face that is potentially horrifying… Uh oh…

  • Scary isn’t it? I still have the taste of the satay and a few glasses of limau ais in my mouth, in honor of celebration to commemorate the dawn of 2008 and it’s already September now… gosh.

  • Kenny,

    One Question,
Do you pay for this blog, I mean, for this address?

    hmm..

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

Nine months. Nine months can pass by so fast… well, unless one is pregnant. Then, I dunno… must get feedback from the mommies. Apamacam? Fast/slow?

    » Moja
Yes, and yes. I pay a webhosting company to host the blog (i.e. the server space) and I pay for the address/url (i.e. http://lifeforbeginners.com)

  • Ah, my exact sentiments!!! Time is just slipping out of my fingers faster than before, and sometimes I feel I can’t do anything about it!

Funny, cute, harried limerick — great job!
Oh and frowns should not make others smile, but this one did!

  • The PICKLES comic strip once had an excellent explanation for why time moves faster as you get older.

To a 1 year old, 1 more year is like 100% more of his entire life span. Whereas, when you’re forty two, 1 year is 1/42th of your life which makes it a very small quantity, hence, there’s less of it. Makes sense or notch? There is great wisdom to be gleaned from comic strips. It’s my ideal reading material, much like food blogs. Got pictures, and some words.

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » fatboybakes
I’m so with you on comic strips as great reading material, daily wisdom encapsulated in 2–4 panels. Do you read “For Better or For Worse”? One of my favourites… the characters actually age and grow up and pass on…

  • hahahahah! love that squirm kenny!! :P
what a good way of greeting me…after being away from blog hopping for a while. have missed your blog lots! :)

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » lingzie
Hehe, just imagine if I greet everyone like this… What would they think?? LOL

  • Ah..and my aunt and I were just lamenting that Ramadhan goes by faster and faster each year! I may have come across an article that said that though we still have the same 24 hours — by some scientific quirk — the measure of a second does get marginally shorter year by year. The reduction is infinitesinal but accummulated…

I’ve got to hunt for that article, It could explain why time scarcity is becoming dire these days!

Thanks for the short and sweet poem, Kenny. Ironically, while time is getting more scarce, attention span is also getting shorter!

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » Eliza D
Fortunately my attention span hasn’t deteriorated to the point I’m unable to finish reading your comment! :P

And I think I’ve read that same article or something similar, but ages ago. But then again, what is time, but countless grains of sands, no?

  • Where have all the hours gone?
I cannot tell you but I think
    I was here
    Waiting for the telephone
    Waiting for the email
    Waiting for a sign
    Waiting for an invitation
    Waiting for a smile
    Waiting for assurance
Waiting for my ships to come home

    All the hours
    If I add them up
    Will mean a lifetime
    For I am nearing 45
    But I feel like 55

Where have all the hours gone?
    Gone to see the doctor
    Gone to see the teacher
    Gone to buy dinner

Gone to see a man about a dog
    Gone to have a smoke
    Gone to buy a book
    Just out for a while

    The hours were elusive
    They are simply gone
    Daylight saving rule is pervasive
One hour is lost everytime spring/summer comes around
Why is the sun punishing me?
I have to get to meetings one hour earlier now
I have to make sure all my timepieces are correct
My planes, my schedules, my blackberry
    Where have all hours gone?

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » Mercadia
Wow. Like FBB, I’m wondering where you found all the hours to write this? :P
