Where did all the hours go?
Didn’t time use to pass by slow?
Maybe the clocks now turn too fast
We aren’t even done with the past
And it’s already tomorrow.

Where have all the hours gone?
Mysteriously from bed till morn
Someone halt this temporal theft
We haven’t arrived before we’ve left
Feeling weak, weary and worn.

Where did all the hours go
In this busy life full of woe?
We move quicker from A to B
Yet when we finally pause to see
What have we got to show?

Where have all the hours gone?
Between work and play we’re torn
Don’t we miss our friends and family
And just being stupid and silly?
When will we ever be done?

Where did all the hours go?
All this pointless bustle really blows
So I say we gotta find a new way
To beat the blues on this fresh Monday
Or else pay for what surely follows.

Where have all the hours gone
From the second that we were born?
Who cares? This ain’t a test.
All we want is some damn rest
Before all the good fun is gone!

At least you pause and see … that’s the key. Good reminder.

  2. Kenny Mah says:

    » Chin
Hahaha, the choice of words in your phrasing suddenly reminded me of the radio hit ‘Stop and Stare’ … I mean, I wanna stop, but not to just sit down and stare dumbfounded at the world around me… :P

  3. keropokman says:

    The hours are still there.
It’s still keep as accurately by the atomic clocks.

We are just preoccupied with useless stuff and fluff. sigh…

  4. Kenny Mah says:

    » keropokman
Too true. That’s-a-why we have to work at removing the fluff from our lives so eventually we work less and get to rest/play/have fun. Or else we end up completely exhausted with our tongues rolling out like a certain someone in the second picture above. Ahem. :P

  5. Moja says:

    Haiiih..

    Time won’t wait Kenny.
Let’s stop procrastinate and let’s so things we wanna do!

Before all the good fun is GONE!
    :P

  6. daphne says:

the good thing is that everyone has 24 hrs! Just a matter on how we use them or prioritise!

Oh no. I got to rush to my next appt! oops.. *waves*

  7. Jemima says:

I’ve learned days are long, but life is short.

  8. Kenny Mah says:

    » Moja
That’s what I keep telling myself: Time won’t wait. What’s stopping me from doing what I really wanna do?

And there’s so MUCH I wanna do before the day is done…

    » daphne
    LOL!!

    » Jemima
True, but ain’t it true also that the days are also getting shorter? :P

  9. J2Kfm says:

I dread Mondays. Like how I’m feeling today. Slow paced, mundane, and endless work to be done. I’ll jump for joy if the weekend consists of 3 days instead of 2.

  10. Kenny Mah says:

    » J2Kfm
Guess what? I think some countries do have 3 day weekends! Lucky citizens, no doubt.

What would you do with the extra day, though? I’ll prolly spend it SLEEPING! :P

  11. Boss Cat says:

    what face reaction lai?

  12. Kenny Mah says:

    » Boss Cat
Mostly a reaction to non-stop tedium and all the woes of the world falling down on one’s shoulder.

Suggests spa retreat as ideal solution. Any sponsor? :D

  13. Paul says:

OMG. What have you been doing!

  14. Kenny Mah says:

    » Paul
    Heh. Heh heh heh.

  15. Lianne says:

aiyo young man … stay calmmmmmm

  16. Kenny Mah says:

    » Lianne
Oh don’t worry, I am calm lah. Just exhausted. Can’t believe the week has started again. Man, the time truly flies… like at supersonic speed! :P

  17. Nic (KHKL) says:

i hardly ever use the word “time” these days.
everything has been reduced to “moments”.
and “winks” when it comes to sleep.

thank goodness for celebrations like mooncake festivals to remind us of those good old days of candles, lanterns and of course, mooncakes. :D

  18. Kenny Mah says:

    » Nic (KHKL)
Ah, the Mooncake Festival. Or Mid-Autumn Festival, as it were. I’m not sure I’m looking forward to that anymore. I’m so stuffed with mooncakes already!! :P

  19. kak teh says:

kenny, where did all the years go? I believe it is the work of the same time thief.

and a word of advice – stop frowning like that. hehe!

  20. tigerfish says:

ya man, where have all the hours gone? It’s kinda frightening when I start to “analyze” the hours….yucks! There are people who think hours are gone fast and so put their schedule so full -they want to accomplish the most in this lifetime; YET… there are people who think hours are gone fast and has already learn how to slow down. But now I’m put in the middle of a mad rush again!

  21. Leo says:

In the Islamic prophecy, correct me if i am wrong, one of the many signs of Judgment day is basically time hasten up drastically.

    Yikes.

  22. Kenny Mah says:

    » kak teh
Yes, I believe so. Let’s track this time thief down and do nasty Inquisitor things to him. :P

And what did me Mum said about frowning like that? That the wind would change and my face would be stuck that way? Oh the horrors!

    » tigerfish
I think I’m one of those people guilty of cramming their schedules full of activities… Need to decompress…

    » Leo
Again, horrors of horrors! Yikes and double-yikes!

  23. JENCOOKS says:

    Does a chrono watch helps?
Remember a Korean documentary on a writer that in order to focus and have time he locked himself up in a room for a year and his wife just pass him the necessities, now got time? Hei I didnt ask you to be locked up in Ivory Tower?

  24. Kenny Mah says:

    » JENCOOKS
If you were to lock me up in a room (or an ivory tower), make sure to pass me plenty of DVDs and three-kilogram jars of Nutella. And chips. And OJ. And… well, maybe just the hotline to the nearest grocery mart with a delivery number. :P

  25. the hours , minutes & secs are fast coming to 916
    …so get ready for it

  26. Kenny Mah says:

    » backStreetGluttons
    916?

  27. Moja says:

Someone has to create a time machine!
    or Doraemon perhaps?

    *doing assignments. :(

  28. “Time goes by so slowly for those who waits,”….sings the wise ol’ Madonna. So I guess you weren’t waiting or bumming around. Sounds like good quality for a business partner. LOL

  29. JENCOOKS says:

    Eh that’s all u need in life, that’s easy….muahahaha.

  30. Kenny Mah says:

    » Moja
A Time Machine or a Cloning Machine, to make more of me, to get more done and have more fun! :P

    » A Lil Fat Monkey
Yes our sage Madge… We get all the wisdom we need from Maddie, we do. :P

How very perspicacious of you to observe this. Also a good quality for a business partner. LOL

    » JENCOOKS
    I am easy, that’s true. ;)

  31. fatboybakes says:

i think if i had to compose an ode to time laidat, my hours will all be gone too…and probably hair too…bow bow, i am not worthy…

  32. hahahah both of you look so funny in many ways, well captured photos! lol!

  33. keropokman says:

they have carbon trading, hmmm if i have time trading.
slackers will earn dough from it! LOL..

  34. Kenny Mah says:

    » fatboybakes
Truth be told, the pics were originally meant for a spiffier, sunnier post. But when I finally had the time (no pun intended) to sit down to write about it, I was soooo exhausted that this was what turned up instead.

And aiya, what bow bow? It is I who is truly not worthy…

    *bow, bow*

    » Big Boys Oven
Well for that we have to thank the irreplaceable and inimitable Lyrical Lemongrass. Few folks could capture this ugly mug o’ mine so well. :P

    » keropokman
Can I just have sleep trading? LOL

  35. keropokman says:

wonderful idea. you can pay me to sleep for you. LOL

  36. Kenny Mah says:

    » keropokman
Eh, harlo — I thought it was the other way round??? :P

  37. Moja says:

Owh… I definitely need clones to attend classes and doing my assignments. Hahahaha. So, I can sit back, blogging and relax whilst the clones do all the works.

    Yessss!

  38. Kenny Mah says:

    » Moja
Or better yet, be a mutant like the Multiple Man — make as many clones of yourself when you need them and then absorb them back when you don’t need! How cool is that? :D

  39. Moja says:

    Agree, agree!
Hahahaha. That sounds cool too! Fuiyoh, I will never late for classes and lectures ever again.

    Geez banana.

My stomach has been singing all day long. I better get prepare to brake-fast.
    The minutes are so sloooooooooooooooooow.
    :(

  40. Kenny Mah says:

    » Moja
The minutes may be slow, but wouldn’t it be worse if they never go?

  41. Jun says:

tell me, do u have a relative studying med in adelaide as well? cos one of my junior looks suspiciously like u @_@

  42. zewt says:

where has all the time gone?
when days used to be so long
where I can sing many songs
    those days…they are long gone

  43. Kenny Mah says:

    » Jun
Not that I know of. Is this one of my clones we were discussing earlier, a few comments above yours? :P

    » zewt
Wow. Sounds like you were a major karaoke fan, bro. LOL

  44. Jackson Kah says:

24 hours is alwiz not enough for me….. how great if there is 25 hours a day..

  45. Moja says:

Whoa, you got one clone on the loose. Now, you have to track ‘Kenny’ back, dude! He’s in Adelaide!

    :P
Maybe the idea of cloning wasn’t a good idea after all.
    Hahahaha.

  46. Kenny Mah says:

    » Jackson Kah
25 hours a day? Round that up to 30 and count me in! :D

    » Moja
Hmm.. having clones running around ain’t what worries me… It’s what they’re doing in my name and face that is potentially horrifying… Uh oh…

  47. gina says:

Scary isn’t it? I still have the taste of the satay and a few glasses of limau ais in my mouth, in honor of celebration to commemorate the dawn of 2008 and it’s already September now… gosh.

  48. Moja says:

    Kenny,

    One Question,
Do you pay for this blog, I mean, for this address?

    hmm..

  49. Kenny Mah says:

    » gina
Nine months. Nine months can pass by so fast… well, unless one is pregnant. Then, I dunno… must get feedback from the mommies. Apamacam? Fast/slow?

    » Moja
Yes, and yes. I pay a webhosting company to host the blog (i.e. the server space) and I pay for the address/url (i.e. http://lifeforbeginners.com)

  50. Camemberu says:

Ah, my exact sentiments!!! Time is just slipping out of my fingers faster than before, and sometimes I feel I can’t do anything about it!

Funny, cute, harried limerick – great job!
Oh and frowns should not make others smile, but this one did!

  51. Kenny Mah says:

    » Camemberu
Hehe, frown or no frown, my face tends to make folks break out spontaneously in laughter anyway. :P

  52. Moja says:

    Isk…

I have mandarin test by tomorrow. I need more time. Moooooooooore time.
    Ni hao ma?

Lao shi sure gonna kill me. I’m screwwweeed!

  53. Kenny Mah says:

    » Moja
Maybe the Chinese would have invented a time machine by now?

  54. Jun says:

haha kenny yeah u’d better worry abt that “clone” and wat he does with that “face” here in ade *grin*

  55. Kenny Mah says:

    » Jun
Oh dear me, what have “I” been up to Down Under? :P

  56. Ah, that’s the pout you swore not to show your readers, hahahaha! Good one, precioussss…

  57. Kenny Mah says:

    » Argus back in CH
The pout that sunk a thousand ships, hahahah…

  58. fatboybakes says:

The PICKLES comic strip once had an excellent explanation for why time moves faster as you get older.

To a 1 year old, 1 more year is like 100% more of his entire life span. Whereas, when you’re forty two, 1 year is 1/42th of your life which makes it a very small quantity, hence, there’s less of it. Makes sense or notch? There is great wisdom to be gleaned from comic strips. It’s my ideal reading material, much like food blogs. Got pictures, and some words.

  59. Kenny Mah says:

    » fatboybakes
I’m so with you on comic strips as great reading material, daily wisdom encapsulated in 2-4 panels. Do you read “For Better or For Worse”? One of my favourites… the characters actually age and grow up and pass on…

  60. lingzie says:

hahahahah! love that squirm kenny!! :P
what a good way of greeting me…after being away from blog hopping for a while. have missed your blog lots! :)

  61. Kenny Mah says:

    » lingzie
Hehe, just imagine if I greet everyone like this… What would they think?? LOL

  62. Eliza D says:

Ah..and my aunt and I were just lamenting that Ramadhan goes by faster and faster each year! I may have come across an article that said that though we still have the same 24 hours – by some scientific quirk – the measure of a second does get marginally shorter year by year. The reduction is infinitesinal but accummulated…

I’ve got to hunt for that article, It could explain why time scarcity is becoming dire these days!

Thanks for the short and sweet poem, Kenny. Ironically, while time is getting more scarce, attention span is also getting shorter!

  63. Kenny Mah says:

    » Eliza D
Fortunately my attention span hasn’t deteriorated to the point I’m unable to finish reading your comment! :P

And I think I’ve read that same article or something similar, but ages ago. But then again, what is time, but countless grains of sands, no?

  64. Mercadia says:

Where have all the hours gone?
I cannot tell you but I think
    I was here
    Waiting for the telephone
    Waiting for the email
    Waiting for a sign
    Waiting for an invitation
    Waiting for a smile
    Waiting for assurance
Waiting for my ships to come home

    All the hours
    If I add them up
    Will mean a lifetime
    For I am nearing 45
    But I feel like 55

Where have all the hours gone?
    Gone to see the doctor
    Gone to see the teacher
    Gone to buy dinner

Gone to see a man about a dog
    Gone to have a smoke
    Gone to buy a book
    Just out for a while

    The hours were elusive
    They are simply gone
    Daylight saving rule is pervasive
One hour is lost everytime spring/summer comes around
Why is the sun punishing me?
I have to get to meetings one hour earlier now
I have to make sure all my timepieces are correct
My planes, my schedules, my blackberry
    Where have all hours gone?

  65. Kenny Mah says:

    » Mercadia
Wow. Like FBB, I’m wondering where you found all the hours to write this? :P
