Beauty Mark

Shanghai Sisters

.

Your beauty mark
You are desire on printed skin
Even as you draw me in
Your every touch a tender valentine
A kiss, even missed, trembles with your salty shine
We shiver as we laugh and try again
To kiss, to devour, and to stake my claim
We’ll pretend I was the only one who left this beauty mark on you.

Credits. Model is the enigmatic and efferverscent wife of one of the gentlemen in the All You Need Is Love collage. She isn’t usually a set of Shanhainese twins. I just made her this way. And before any of you ask why isn’t there a beauty mark on her face, consider — there are other places where such beauty finds their mark. Ahem. Photos & design © Kenny Mah.

For my readers whom I promised a new post today, well I hope you aren’t too disappointed with something this light, but it is Monday and the start of a new work week is heavy enough without me making it heftier, eh?

Plus I just had the hugest lunch at Delicious where all the girls ganged up to skip the main course and order only desserts. We must have ordered every single item off the dessert menu. I must say their Peach and Banana Crumble with Vanilla Ice-Cream is to die for. Yums…

  • helo helo! short and light but effective! just LOVE it:) love the shot — makes her look so cute yet mysterious.. .wonder where’s the beauty mark … :P

Hehe, where’s the beauty mark? That you have to gotta ask the husband lah… They are both such good-looking people, I guess there’ll be a line of girls asking the same question of Mr. Cute & Mysterious. LOL

Just kiddin’. Everyone is beautiful if you know how to appreciate them, bro.

    » Anna
Nope. She is another lucky fler’s other half. (See previous post.)

My Other-and-Most-Definitely-Better-Half remains in the background, like Fran Walsh to Peter Jackson. Shy lah. Not everyone is a social butterfly slash attention whore like I am. (Strangely enough not my words, but all my friends seem to never tire of reminding me so.) :P

  • well i’m sure ur other and better half is really lucky too! :)

  • haha its a pleasure to read any piece of urs, long or short la…take it as there come!

yes, she n the other half r damn sweet together hor..

Provoke unthinkable thoughts? I should hope not! I’d thought it through thoroughly that if one can think those thoughts, then those thoughts unthinkable are thoroughly thinkable.

    :D

    » Anna
I hope so, I really hope so. I do my best but… :P

    » lotsofcravings
LOL. Photoshop him in with her? But I already had the Husband in a comfortable position with Another Man in my previous post. Also lovey-dovey some more. Oh, die lah if cause scandal… LOL

  • hmmm, now you put it that way, the unthinkable, when thought thoroughly must be thinkable! Back to square one.

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » kak teh
LOL. Hope I didn’t cause another round of spoonerism in you, my dear, through my awful alliterativism by association. (Oops, did it again!)

One day, we should have a tongue-twisting tournament. :D

  • *aih*… kenny, kenny, kenny…

u never fail to give me diabetes… but den again all’s good eh… ;)

as long as u keep belting out obsenely sweet-diabetic-good-ness… u still owe me yamcha session… :P

  • Pretend! I am not sure who has left more marks. Remind me of the Soong sisters though they are 3. The first love money, the 2nd China and the last power.

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

Now, now, as sweet (purportedly) as my posts may be, I’m sure no one is in danger of developing diabetes from my blog. (I certainly hope not!)

As for the yam cha session, hey are you sure it isn’t you who owe me one? That’s why I’ve been waiting for months since our last one to hear from you… ;)

    » Chin
I think this one loves her husband more than those three things. :)

  • I’ll give you one guess where my beauty mark is.

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » Jemima
Just one guess? Hehe, then let me guess… Hmm, let me pop the question in absolute secrecy… Safer… In case I get it wrong… or in case I get it right! LOL

I’m sure I’ve seen that movie, but I don’t really remember much of it. I do recall one of the actresses was a Canadian Chinese who acted with Ewan MacGregor in “The Pillow Book.” Weird, how memory works sometimes… lines that connect one thing to the next… a maze of trivia.

    » crimson@venger
As they say, that’s for me to know, and for you to… Ahem. :P

    » Calypso
That line is so true for me, it’s scary.

  • eh! I had that exact Peach and Banana Crumble, and MARVELOUS right?!!!
we’ve successfuly gone through the toughest ordeal of the week. Monday.

I’m sure there is, dear. Sometimes it’s not about waiting but about seeing with renewed sight who is really out there who feels about us the way we want to be desired and treasured.

    » Paul
Glad someone caught that one! ;)

  • Light or heavy, still as romantic.

Aha! Foodblogging is infectious, no? See, you can’t do a post without a mention of food huh.

Now you’re making me blush! A grown-up man, at that. Haha…

    *hugs back*

    » girl-in-picture
Yay! So glad you approve… When I have the time, I will load the originals on Facebook and you can see what I’ve done with them. :)

Hahaha. Let’s see, how to reply this one. Ah, I’ve got it:

    a) I don’t have fans lah. I’m not a celebrity like … well, like celebrities lah. I’m lucky to have any readers in the first place!

    b) What makes you think they are really female? This is the Internet, remember? Anyone can be anyone… :P

    *runs and hides*

    » kristopher
Too true, mate! ROMANCE is for EVERYONE! (Damn, that should be my new tagline, haha.)

    » Selene
    They chase, I run lor… :P

  • nice and simple. just like all marks of beauty should be.

  • Selene wrote:

i will chase u also. lol

  • this “mark” is more than just a mark, me thinks.
it’s more of a RAM than a ROM.
    perhaps that’s why it’s called a mark.

    nicely collage, dude! :)

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

I have marks on me … but not so much beauty marks as in cuts and acne scars and old age + liver spots… all sorts of ewww-y signs of aging and all round unsavouriness. But my darling doesn’t complain (much) beyond thrusting the latest in male cosmetic moisturiser products onto me, so I guess it’s okay.

    :P

    » the_lighthouse
Thanks, but no, I’m not a graphic designer in the full-time sense anyway. I’m completely self-taught and will do assignments for clients on a case-by-case basis. It doesn’t pay the monthly bills though. Just feeds the passion. ;)

  • Jeffer wrote:

I like how you interspersed the woman’s face with the Chinese designs. Is it architecture or calligraphy? I noticed the picture on the front page of the blog is slightly different from the picture on this post too.

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » Jeffer
I actually took some snapshots of some antique window details from an old Malaccan Hokkien clan house and layered it over the front page’s picture. I reduced this effect for the picture featured on the post proper so that there is a softer, not so abrupt effect, so the girls (or, girl, singular, as it were) have this elegant Old Shanghai feel to them.

No calligraphy were used for this particular design though I’ve applied them in the past. See if you can spot which posts! :)

  • Jeffer wrote:

That explains the difference! Thanks for explaining.

  • the_lighthouse wrote:

u can defintiely be a full-time graphic designer. any good company will snatch u up! :D

Cheh, why does everyone keeps insisting I’m romantic. Those days of candlelight and rose petals scattered all over the bed are over lah. Seriously, just ask my darling dear. LOL

  • no more candles and roses? too expensive these days, issit? :-P

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » KC
No lah, roses and candles can still afford one… but no more “pre-planned + pre-packaged” romance ma… Real romance is everyday lovin’, bro… ;)

OH NO! Tell me it ain’t so! The model is gonna kill me for this… :P

  • Hmmm… i like the “devour” and “staking claim” part… such underlying tones of passion and geramness. We humans, like most animals, love to stake our claims, don’t we? Ahhh… that reminds me of my furkid who loves to stake his claim at every bush, car tyre, pillar, lamp post whenever i take him out on walks.… hehe! (jeez… talk about being out-of-topic… sorry!)

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    » Pureglutton
LOL… Not altogether out of topic, we can feel quite a lot of lurve for our furry and feather friends too ma… But yes, passion is the name of this game… you don’t want to just go through the routine. Love isn’t a series of steps; it’s stomping and screaming and soothing and saliva and sauce and scrawling and simpering and sizzling…

    Uhm. Yeah.

  • *ai*… it’s not that I’m not free la… i can’t leave comments on blogs as often as i like to now… mostly silent reader… but am still around… will see what i can whip up… will buzz u soon… ;)
