Champagne

.

It’s Valentine’s Day. Oh bummer.

February 14 and we have to fork out a bundle for horrendously over-priced roses, greeting cards dotted with large pink hearts, gourmet chocs, teddy bears and other fluffy stuffed animals, the whole lot. And champagne for those who are ‘truly romantic’, or so the restaurants will tell us, all the while gleefully marking up their prices.

We learn to dread Valentine’s Day. There is nothing remotely romantic about this event, this homage to crass capitalism. We decided to boycott the darned day, naturally. What else could we do? Drink champagne all day?

… hmm. Now that’s an idea…

I’m flying off to Hanoi in less than five hours and will only return to Kay-El on Sunday afternoon, so don’t worry if you don’t see your comments appearing here… I’ll approve, publish and reply to them all when I return.

    Ah veel bee bak! ;)

    Hey Kenny,

I love the V-day post. Not too sugary but not to salty either. ;) That’s pretty much how I feel about the holiday, I think. I had a smaller dinner party but made shrimp and artichoke heart pasta. I thought it would be entertaining, even if I was the only one who got the joke. ;)

I had just one comment on formatting. I love the new site, but with your multi-pages, do you think you could include a next button in addition to the multi-numbers? I know it’s a nit-picky thing, but I think it would be nice. :)

  • Another idea is what I’ve been doing every Valentine’s Day.

Go out…and laugh at couples willing to spend money on this day.

Just that now I have someone to share that with. :)

  • What a wonderful time for a wonderful bunch of people! Who needs roses and romance when you have 17 bottles of champagne and premium company? Hope you’re having a swell one in Hanoi!
