It’s Eid ul-Fitr. In Malaysia, this means most of our Muslim friends and colleagues have gone back to their hometowns to celebrate the end of a month of fasting. Cities are emptied out, almost. The roads of Kuala Lumpur are free of traffic; I remember a joke from my school days that one could lie down on the road and lie there for a good half an hour without worrying about being run over by a car or a truck. (Such morbid kids we were, and yet none of us ever asked, What about the next half hour?)
For the rest of us remaining in the city and not off across oceans and contients on some sort of sympathetic vacation, what are we to do? Left to our own devices, we could be up to all sorts of unutterable mischief. Fortunately for some of us, Fatboybakes has decided to call upon his clan of fellow bloggers and friends, some sort of modern family where we qualify by the standards to which we chew, taste and swallow with expiry dates and oh so shelf lives (I jest, but just barely), and hosted a sorta Raya Tea Party on the first day of Syawal.
These are such beautiful people, in every way that matters.
I shan’t say more, for I have sworn a solemn oath not to repeat what has passed between our reckless and promiscous lips yesterday (and I don’t merely mean the delectable delicacies that the master baker had conjured for us lucky guests), and so instead, here are a few moments from the sort of tea party we could only wish we could attend all the time and not only during times of festivities. Life’s a reason enough for celebration, yes?
.
Selamat Hari Raya to all my dearest Muslim friends. Maaf Zahir dan Batin.

Wah! Mee Siam’s magnificent assets is definitely eye-catching in the 1st pix.
The Beast looks like a model for a toothpaste advert.
*makes a quick exit before Mee Siam & the Beast chases after Jem*

“Lokasi: Rumah Si Pembakar Roti Gedempul.” — Muaahahahaha!
Love the first picture! It’s like a big happy family reunion picture! Good one
hey, that’s not the joke i remember. i think it went something like, the roads are so empty, you could dance up and down naked for half an hour without worrying about being seen by any drivers. so no, we weren’t ALL morbid moppets.
(sadly though, the streets get less and less empty every year)
looks like the party of the year! =)
Must be a happy group.…look at all the lovely smile
URGH! haha the moment my firefox load lifrforbeginners, den i saw yr title fatboybakes — I want to go too! lol great photos, it’s all about the company

What a funny joke and yeah, I wonder that gonna happen the next half hour, hehehehe…
I like the way you made the photos! perhaps can make one for me too, ya?

Nice pix and write ups! bring the old school P Ramlee feeling .……
Such happy faces! Must have been a very good party! =)
love the vintage look of the pics!
Wah! Can I gatecrash next time?
Err, Deepavali got open house again? hehe…
Such heartwarming photos of genuine joy and camaraderie! Absolutely beautiful!
This kind of friendship is what we will hold dearest on our deathbed, or deathroad (after the second half hour!)
Haha, I love that final shot of Nic! It’s so funny! Like a semi-drunk Tok Janggut saying, “let me tell you…”
[…] don’t just take my word for it that it was a mad tea party.. check out LFB & his take on the […]
Well, I just had dinner with Mee Siam & the Beast & their respective spouses tonight… Wish I had read this comment of yours earlier so I could, uhm, pass your messages to them. Ahem.
Happy hols to you too! (Though tomorrow is the last day of the long weekend… Sighs.)
Sounds yummy. I prefer my rendang with lemang though… But just as good, ya?
As for the pictures, hey just pick up Photoshop the way I did. No manuals, no tutorials — just play around with the buttons and menus and soon you’ll get the hang of it!
Haha, something like that. It is the holidays, after all. You have a great holiday too, dear.
Aiks. Ah Pa has even more kids lah… I couldn’t fit them all in the same picture… Need better camera…
Heh. Must practice my Bahasa Melayu ma… Use it or lose it!
Okay… Your version is certainly more interesting and, uhm, exhibitionist-ic?
Oh this is good, but Sir FBB has even better parties to come, I’m sure of it!
A very happy group indeed; their smiles never cease to lift up my spirits… and then, the spirits being served helps too.
It’s all about the company, no doubt about it! We could be in a mamak stall or stuck in traffic in a big truck together and it’d be still just as much fun!
Well, let’s hope I get you some glimpses of ketupat and rendang once I start going for all the Raya open houses this week.
Likewise. Perhaps more so, since you even helped to educate the Devil on the various edible aphrodisiacs around…
Haha, of course. We’re nothing if not consummate chatterers.
Mr. Monkey’s version of a “scone” still perplexes me, but I’m glad someone’s enjoying it. Haha, maybe you should ask him to act a “bao” next time? Char siew or Dai bao?
Just standing there can represents bao already..hahaha
we can’t wait for more parties and ur pictures! =)
hey email me some of the unphotoshopped pics please. the group shot and some nice shots of McC & I please.
danke
haha somehow my comment wasn’t below my previous comment. I’m so jealous of the parties u all have, i must convince our folks to throw something similar!
Sure can, can. I’ll email you about whether you want to resize them first or something. There are plenty of good shots of McCutie… Damn fler is like another Devil Wears Prada, so photogenic one these two…
Haha, there are at least a couple more up my sleeves… but Hari Raya is over… It’s back to work today!
No worries, mate. I can figure out the different threads of comments… just barely.
(This is where FBB & Co. complains that they can’t figure who’s commenting what, so long lah, malas to read, dunno what to comment, etc. etc. LOL)
DO PLEASE HAVE SOME PARTIES, man… I’m sure they will rock. Just don’t forget to invite a certain blogger from KL, ya? *hints, hints*
Walao weh. You sure are direct these days, bro. Me happy for you. Shall I pass the message?
Malaysia is DA BEST. Period.
Cool beans! Thanks, dear.
Don’t worry, dear. Once you are fully recovered, I’m sure there will be plenty more. Now all you should focus on is getting better, ya?
*BIG HUGS*
Dull? I don’t think FBB & Co. know the meaning of the word “dull”. We wouldn’t recognise it even if the concept came right up to us and did an impression of the Mother Superior reprimanding Maria in the film ‘The Sound of Music’ while insisting it could not possibly do this said impression cos it wasn’t drunk enough. Ahem.
No, never a dull moment at FBB’s parties.
Well, I think there is a reason why no one knows what happend in the next hour, but a bit morbid to disclose here lah.
Haha, I’d love to do more photo-collages like these, if only I had the time! Why can’t I get a job and get paid doing just this? *wishful thinking*
And with a great ensemble of Very Famous Movie Stars, or Very Famous Food Bloggers, at least.
P Ramlee? Me? Oh, that’s too kind of you… I’m more the Ramlee Burger kinda fella…
get paid for this? aiks … money aint everything rmbr?
viewing the pics lent a feeling of warmth and togetherness.
i’ve some Raya pics, but i dare not post. too hideous … =P
haha…no need la…
How dare I said these in front of them..malu lah…:P
Saya sokong!! =)
Dun be so malu lah… Say first, you never know what you might get as an answer… LOL
Malaysia Boleh!
Money ain’t everything but it would take care of me needing a day job in the meantime, hahaha…
Oh do post your Raya pics. I am sure they are excellent!
It was the very best from the very best, my friend.
not so easy for the rest of us… ur the photoshop genius here…
Hardly a genius, bro… I know less than the basics lah… If only I had the time to take a proper course… Ah well, I guess I have to stick to trial-and-error for now.
Thanks, mate! It was purely by accident, perhaps inspired by the ‘family portrait’ in the first pic?
Well, I’m not the host but I’m sure you’re more than welcome. *sneaky sniggering*
Deepavali, when is it, again?
wow if this is trail and error, i cannot imagine ur pics when u become an expert!
Who knows? That day is sooooo far off I won’t even try and imagine it.
LOL, mayb can try some short movie production nex time? on these food bloggers?
That would be one heckuva movie for sure. “The Attack of the Food Bloggers!” LOL
ramlee burgers are the best! Malaysia boleh!
Malaysia Pasti Boleh!
How did you know? Those WERE his exact words, hehe.
And semi? Only semi-drunk?
