Promise is Beating

.

.

And the Mock Turtle moans and weeps and complains about his dismal fate, the poor excuse for life that he has been handed on his plate.

And the Gryphon pits his wit against them both, chest proud and thumping; he is so much better than everyone else, of course, it goes without saying, but deep inside he knows he is a creature made of two different halves; he is no true animal, you see, and this truth stabs him always without relief.

And Alice?

Alice kisses them both kindly on their cheeks, one maudlin and the other incomplete. My friends, she whispers, speak softly and slower and your fortunes shall grow. Do not forget the promise is beating inside your heart. There is love left in this world yet.

  • How uncanny! I was just relating to Cheng yi how much he reminded me of the Hookah smoking caterpillar. (i.e. being very matter of fact)

    Sevelim Sevilelim ;)

  • So many promises made, all the what-could-have-been stings my heart, but none of it will be fulfilled now. Love? Maybe, one day..

  • I don’t know if it’s me being still inebriated from last night but this brought a tear to my eye. I only hope Tim Burton captures even a smidgen of this in his film.

I reckon it needs to explode every once in a while. Just to give us a jolt or two. More often than not, we tend to forget that it’s there at all.

I believe Tim Burton is trying to catch some other emotion altogether with his film, but who knows? We shall see. I, for one, am eagerly anticipating his take on Alice. :)
