The Grass is Greener

.

I remember when I met you. No stars hung in mid-air nor into your eyes did I stare. No fanfare, confetti or balloons. No falling under the spell of your moon. Romance isn’t always a Belinda Carlisle song.

Love can’t move mountains. Love can’t part the seas. Love doesn’t mean I’m the one for you nor you for me.

Sometimes when I am alone without you, I wonder if the grass is not greener. The other side, the other life, there are always fields of gold for willing seekers. There is honey and molasses and ambrosia untasted; surely to abstain and to forsake would be to waste?

There is always more.

I can have everyone. I can have anyone. But I don’t want to move mountains; I want to always climb your sweet hills. I don’t want to part the seas, not when your river runs through me still. The grass may be greener, but truth be told, we all know there are no fields of gold. That’s alright though.

Who cares about grass or glitter when I have you in my arms to hold?

.

  • aww.. that’s so sweet. “I want nobody, nobody but you.” heh :)

  • wei.. slow down..! u blog too fast!

the grass is always greener on the other side.. but we ARE ‘the otherside’ to the person looking on .. rite?! Excellent.. love can move mountains wat.. it can it can it can! hehe

  • Awww. You’re so gonna get lucky :) Wait, you already are!

  • it is really sweet kenny.. awww

  • awwww… diabetic inducing… I wuz planning to do something similar… but obviously it will never be able to compare to this… you always did have a flair with words… :)

  • Once we make that clean break from the conventional notion of earth shattering romance, the modern more utilitarian approach to romance is just as charming and inspiring, if not more. It may not be eternal or death defying but nope, who needs forever nor immortality when we have the Wonder Girls?

  • if u’re feeling wistfully romantic, go watch (500) days of summer, now showing at sunway pyramid. it’s poignant, achingly truthful, yet life-affirming.
romance is usually a magnetic fields song for me. or jewel, if u prefer something more accessible.

  • Nothing in this world can compare to your words above… ‘coz they truly come straight from your heart. ;)

  • how am i to comment when your post had said it all? but note to self, i GOT to get my good friend to read this!

Belinda Carlisle song? Is it La Luna?

  • Yes, indeed when we come to think abt it, we do have choices but ultimately the person we chose to be with gave us the most happiness.

Now.. HAPPINESS.. I find that that’s the most coveted state of being to be in.

  • Other than feeling the sticky goo-ey lovey dovey feeling after reading what you write.…

I am suddenly thinking of salads! Green crisp salads.
I sometimes wonder what is going on up there in my mind…

  • So glad u r back to the blogging world Kenny.

Grass is always greener.. hmm.. I fall into that trap too BUT then I remember to appreciate and hold on to what I have now. Afterall, sometimes we forget that we already have it in front of us– it is just a matter of tuning our minds to it. =)

  • woah bro, u sure score big-big la with this kinda words. gerenti!

thanks to this post, tom jones’ green green grass of home’s stuck in my head. will it come with imaginery panties thrown at me? :D

green grass, fields of gold, farmer of love? =P

  • I think people always look for things they do not have, that is why the grass appears greener.

  • the day when the grass is no longer greener , is the day of the beginning of the finish line.
Meantime the greener the better for we must have the finishing touches for the grand finis

  • Well-said. Value those that are near.

  • Awwww… so sweet.… how I wish that someone could be so romantic to write like this to me.… coz’ I would be the happiest person on earth!!!

  • I like my grass in the shade they’re currently in. Not too green — just enough to remind me that it’s alive, but not so much that I forget to tend to it.

We need to tend to grass, green or no green. Else weeds would take over. No?

    =)

  • u hit the nail right on the head. the boyfriend has jt flew back today. sigh.

Heh. I am. But reminders sure don’t hurt. :D

That line was actually not meant to be boastful though when I reread the post, I was worried it might come off as much. It’s meant to convey that if we wanted to, we could really be with anyone in any form of relationship possible (not just romantic) but that all these may pale in comparison to the one relationship that fulfills us this deeply.

As for blogging more regularly now, haha — who knows how long it will last? :P

  • hahahahah yeah that’s my first impression, whoa kenny can get everyone and anyone he wants! HAHA i know there’s a deeper meaning :)

well, it’s good while it last. Give us everything you got, every ouch of lyrical juice in you. hehe

You should go ahead and express yourself, dear. Never mind what saccharine schtick I come up with. :)

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

Aye. Conventional wisdom is truly overrated. We need to make our own brand of happinesss and lurve.

And yay to Wonder Girls! I really should do a post on them and their fans soon. They certainly gave me much joy lately. Hehe.

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

    1. Well, it’s a different meaning, sure. I’m not certain that it is indeed a deeper meaning. I’m totally shallow, y’know. *looks blank blank*

    2. For LYRICAL juice, apply within Lyrical Lemongrass’s blog. Heh.

P.S. You leave the best comments ever, mate. (And that’s saying a lot, considering LFB readers leave darn excellent comments to begin with.)

    Props to LIC! :D

  • Kenny Mah wrote:

P.P.S. Isn’t it weird we all go by acronymous pseudonyms? LFB. LIC. FBB. LL/AWOL. TNG. Any others I’m missing? :P

  • aww.. thanks! everybody leave great comments here! hee keropokman too long, what’s his? hahahah

And you ain’t shallow, I always read deep deep into your lines : )

I’d go with Mr. Stephin Merritt anytime. Was just listening to his 69 Love Songs last night. His ‘Busby Berkeley Dreams’ is particularly nostalgic and wrenching. I’m not too sure about life-affirming though.

I totally want to watch (500) Days of Summer — anything that showcases the talents of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel has me as a fan… even before viewing the work itself. :)
