How We Met

.

We met by chance, we met by acquaintance
We were star-crossed lovers in lives before
We met at the club, I asked you to dance
As I led you to song, we knew we’d never leave the floor.

We met at our wedding, by parental promise
An arranged marriage, a perfect match made
We met on the internet, we flirt and we tease
Easier to woo and wonder than to find and fade.

We met while hiking, while diving under the seas
Adventure was the taste of danger, of you and me
We met when we almost never met at all
But, then, how would we have known what life had in stall?

  1. Errr, after all that, I’m confused now. How did u actually meet? Teehee.

    Happy Friday bro!

    • Kenny Mah says:

Hahahahha… You just made my day with that comment, bro. I guess what I’m saying is it doesn’t matter how we meet our loved ones, our partners, what matters is that we did meet. :)

Have a smashing weekend, you and McCutie!

  2. SeowYin says:

And I’m glad that we met…even though we haven’t keep in touch for a very very long time :)

  3. Kenneth says:

Wakaka … yeah … like Monkey said … how in the world did you both meet? o.O

    I’m can-fused. ;)

  4. ladyironchef says:

ROFL! “it doesn’t matter how we meet our loved ones, what matters is that we did meet”, you make this simple line sounds so complicated! :D

  5. Paul says:

Always thought it would be nice to meet over pina colada :)

  6. Vern says:

Ah, a nice one. Good to see you back.

    Remember how we met? LOLZ.

  7. unkaleong says:

We met through our blogs, you and I ;)

  8. worldwindows says:

Many meetings to make the opportune one. Its almost 20 years since I met. Ummm…. reminds me of the ring I have to buy to commemorate. Like this post very much.

i think it was through your blog of which i was a silent reader for ages before i finally left a comment! :P
can’t remember how i came across your blog though…

but like you said..it doesnt matter how we met, what matters is that we did!

  12. Nic (KHKL) says:

for some reason, i read the title as “How We Wet”.
yes, it’s the blardy rain, aitelyu.

  13. argus says:

    … had in store?

Pretty poem, by the way. :-)

  14. Is true is true! I actually know folks who shy away from sharing the stories of how they met (because I pounce on them with this Q shamelessly, relentlessly) and counter with “aiya, nothing special… our story very boring, very normal.” How can it ever be boring when one starry ride, no matter how tranquil or tumultuous??

  15. tigerfish says:

    Nice recap of the day.

  16. daphne says:

How true it is-that moment is precious. I can still recall the 1st second when hubby and I met. Ah, sweet memories.

  17. J2Kfm says:

how sweet. i am reading this on a lazy, rainy Saturday morning, with a hot cup of tea at hand.
    happy weekend.

    • Kenny Mah says:

It’s actually a lazy, cloudy Saturday morning/afternoon here in KL, and I just had some Latte Menta at Nero Teca with the lovely Ravenous Rabbit and Devil Wears Prada over a slow, conversation-heavy lunch, so I know what you mean.

The weekend. Wonderful, isn’t it? :)

  18. fufu says:

it’s my pleasure to meet you here???
    all the best =p

  19. Grey Ang says:

well, now we met through at this blog,
    i wonder if that’s a meeting at all? :)
nice blog! came to this blog the first time, and i love the concept of it! will definitely drop by more! :D

  20. gina says:

What’s in stall for you Kenny, I foresee, is much much happiness and love throughout your life. That’s for sure.

  21. Shuku says:

We met. Over food as usual, and me, blur as a whirl of sugar spun into cotton candy, made the connection only because of a Photoshop project on a dead computer that didn’t quite make it into your birthday because it wouldn’t send.

We met. Through words, of course, and the difference between reading a blog and reading a love letter are very small because it’s all for love, this affair between words and feelings and the tappity-tapping of fingers over black-and-white keys.

We met. Almost a year’s worth of deliciousness, fun, food, not-so-fun, encapsulated in five little not-so-random alphabets strung together to form meaning.

And they say language is long-winded. :)

    • Kenny Mah says:

      Shuku, dear. This is beautiful.

Now I am dreaming of more random and not-so-random alphabets stringing together, struggling to form meaning, struggling to find meaning. Gosh, I need to steal these lines from you for a blog post but fast! :P

      *hug, hug*

  22. Shuku says:

*big hugs back* Sometimes language is a bowl of alphabet soup, innit? We string together words and phrases out of the murk, hoping it’ll convey the meaning we attach to it. Like Michael Pollan said about the rose twigs he bought and planted, they look too fragile to have such weighty historical loads of class, wars, and distinctions attached to them.

I think words are the same way. There’s almost too much power to be conveyed in a simple N-O.

    • Kenny Mah says:

Good point. Though being the garrulous fler that I am, I tend to add at least one letter and go with Y-E-S, or worse, M-O-R-E-P-L-E-A-S-E.

Words. What would we ever do without them? Less pain, maybe — but oh so much less fun also.

  23. Shuku says:

    Oh yes. :)

I find it interesting that the shortest words sometimes convey the most meaning. Yes. No. Mmm. Err.

(Incidentally, I remember reading about some author – name slips my mind, bleh – who was anxious to find out how his novel had sold, and sent a message to his publisher. The resultant conversation is a model of succinctness:

    Author’s telegram: ?
    Publisher’s reply: !

    Nuff said, eh? )

    • Kenny Mah says:

      I love those telegrams!

Me, on ze other hand, as mentioned above, may never be capable of succintness… Ah well, win some, lose some…

(Waitaminute. Win some? What did I win?)

      :P

  24. asstha says:

wonderfully written yet again kenny… *claps hands together in delight*
as always you put the words together so effortlessly it’s a sin… love the way you weaved in the multiple ways of meeting, the old-fashioned way and the day of the wire domination… now even i can’t recall how we met… should be through our blogs but i can’t remember whose n whens n d hows… hving said that, it does mean something no? when there’s millions of blogs out there and we just so happen to fall into the certain some where we still pay the occasional homage to (ya i know my blog is as good as dead right now… even worse then yours… patience, i foresee it shall be back in full swing sometime after the 1st Quarter next year… after all, good things comes to those who wait no??? – ya this applies to you too… :P )

    • Kenny Mah says:

I think you came across my blog via Zewt’s blog, a million million blog years ago. We are like the old man/lady generation of bloggers! :P

And I eagerly await the resurrection of your blog, dear! 2010 it is, then! :D
