What’s this about? Well, I’ve decided to do a countdown till CNY (Chinese New Year) since this is me first in what seems a long, long time (okay, so I only missed one last year, but still). It’s like Thanksgiving and Christmas all rolled into one for Chinese folks, just as fun and about a hundred times noisier. Will try and write something everyday about it till then, then.
First up, is possibly the most important part of CNY for li’l kids (and single, unmarried folks like me): Hóng Bāo’s! Hong-what? Er, it means “red packets” in Chinese (紅包), which literally it is: small, thin, red envelopes filled with $$$! Folks with wedding bands have to give them out to the young ones, and it’s basically wealth circulation, at least it is to me. Prosperity, actually, which means plenty to the Chinese, I think more so to overseas Chinese like us, with all the displaced culture syndrome blah blah. Methinks Maria and UMcG got some when they were in HK last year.
And I got nada.
Me makes up for it but good this year, heh-heh… (Picture diabolical Chinaman rubbing grubby, world-annhilating hands together in wicked glee. Dr. Evil has nothing on me.)
