Burning Diaries

I keep burning diaries
I write with flames they burn me
I smell waking demons
I tell my truth they lynch me

I keep burning diaries
I scorch my hands they haunt me
I am writing fire
I play with words they scar me

I keep hearing rumours
I turn pages they cut me
I start saying prayers
I light paper they fly free

I fear going early
My warm ashes drift blindly
I dread dying slowly
Grandfather didn’t warn me.

  • “The life of every man is a diary in which he means to write one story, and writes another; and his humblest hour is when he compares the volume as it is with what he vowed to make it.” ~JM Barrie~

Keep writing, my friend.. because there is a difference between interest and commitment. When one is interested in doing something, one does it only when circumstances permit….When one is committed to something one accepts no excuses only results !!!

I foresee better posts & better writings in your days to come.

  • rather scary-sounding verses. it makes me think of stories about medieval demons, crazed inquisitors and witches being burnt at the stake…

  • @jemima: Thank you, my dear. I like that – accepting no excuses, only results. Now that’s what I call Commitment.

It’s an inspiring, rousing exhortation by you, my friend, and I am convinced it’s a rallying cry I must answer.

To do battle, to war – with words, with the demons in my soul, to put them down on paper, to pin them down in text and subtext and more – and so I roar!

    Or something liddat.

  • @Sean: Demons and inquisitors and “witches” being burnt – we don’t just have that in the Middle Ages, you know.

  • And I keep making diaries with paper, needles, thread, fabric, and snippets of life woven in between. But the pages are blank and need filling in, and I suppose that’s what life is for.

  • @Spindle Girl: I haven’t written in my diaries in ages! But I do treasure my older journals from years before with every minute detail recorded.

Reminds me life’s for living and I did live it. Hooray!

  • Such vivid imagery! The searing truth!

  • @Camemberu: *waves to you in hong kong*

Hope you’re having a swell holiday, dear!

Burning diaries. I can’t help thinking of the Cultural Revolution or the Great Confucian Purge. *giggle*

  • @kyh: There’s that, too. How many books have we banned, how many have we burnt. It’s a tragedy, it is.

  • i wouldn’t know. i haven’t met anyone who fits those descriptions so far.
p.s. is this the first month ever that u’ve had a post every day? and what does february have in store, we have to ask? :D

  • @Sean: I think I meant it in a less literal manner. But it’s good if you haven’t. You lead a blessed life, my friend.

P.S. It is indeed the first month where I’ve posted daily. The most I’ve done before this is probably 20+ posts during my early blogging years.

And February sees me on CNY holiday back in Malacca, and then a longer one in Taipei. And then some work trip to Miri and Kuching.

That basically means I’ll be lucky to post anything at all in February. Oopsies.

  • Hooray indeed! I’m doing just that this CNY. Cooking, spending time with family, and just relaxing because my life’s always a whirl of activity. This time, I want to -live- it, not rush it.

And happy new year to you and CK! Miss you guys lots here in Ipoh!

  • @Spindle Girl: Happy CNY to you and your family too, dear! And you are already back in Ipoh? Excellent, excellent. You’ve certainly avoided the worst of the rush, methinks… and the rain and now I hear, the floods!

  • Yo…Gong Xi Fa Cai to u Kenny :)

  • @mimid3vils: Gong Xi, Gong Xi! Let’s all ring the Year of the Golden Rabbit in!

  • Oh yes, it was raining all the way back yesterday and we nearly had an accident because of an idiot driver. I’m doing lots of relaxing and baking. And cooking (the pork! The pork! With the black moss!)

Does CK have the birthday dinner photos btw? I’d like to see them at some point!

  • @Spindle Girl: I love that exclamation of yours, dear – the pork! the pork! with the black moss! – sounds like a perfect mantra for the kitchen during this festive season.

Will ask CK to post the birthday photos this week – he should be really free, what with the hols, haha.

  • Woo! Birthday photos! That’ll be lovely. I’m charging my camera. I’m going to be making Pao de Queijo (Brazilian cassava cheese bread) and gluten-free French bread, and probably an artichoke spinach dip for the tortillas, and some cream puffs as well for CNY. I must feed my mother; she’s getting too thin and my father doesn’t get spoiled enough as is.

Of course we must have pork! pork! I will be cooking that soon after I run out to the grocery store in a few minutes. By the way, apparently you know Janvier Soldat the Puppet Soldier? He’s a good friend!

  • Hehe, thanks, Kenny. Am back in Singapore with proper wi-fi now. That’s why can surf your lovely blog properly again! You’ve been prolific and I love it!!!

  • @Spindle Girl: Oh all those breads and dips and puffs sound lovely – your parents are in for some good eatin’, that’s for sure!

Janvier? Aye, I think I do know him, sorta. Back from the days when I still went to gym and did BodyCombat, I believe?

    And pork, more pork! Hooray!

  • @Camemberu: Welcome back! Must be nice to be home again, no matter how wonderful the vacation/getaway was. That’s how I feel anyway. No place like home.

And thanks for reading my posts. Unfortunately I don’t think I’d be quite as prolific in February, what with the holidays and all. But will try not to shift to the other extreme of disappearing for an entire month either, hehe.

  • Yes, BodyCombat Janvier! He still goes. Quite a character but he’s a great guy. Pork! It is in the fridge now waiting for slicing. And the cheese bread came out faaaaaaantastic.

  • @Spindle Girl: Well, you have great friends – it would be a pleasure for us to know more of them.

And ooh, what I’d do for a whiff of that cheese bread now… If it’s any consolation (to me), I just reached Malacca and there’s tons of CNY cookies in jars waiting for me to raid them! Hooray!

oh !!! one more time happy new year as i am too busy too look at the last post where i wished u and try and find ur reply there lol :)))

    its tomorrow right …

  • @vimesh: Hey, mate! No worries and thanks for the wishes.

Tomorrow is Chinese New Year EVE. That’s when we have our reunion dinner. The first proper day of the Lunar New Year falls on the 3rd of February this year, on Thursday.

no posts today?? have a safe and fun trip back and gong xi, gong xi!! get ready a big money bag for your angpows!!

  • @lena: Well, I thought there will be no posts today as I only did the daily-posts thing in January as a challenge.

Yet life will continue to surprise us in many ways. I returned to my hometown Malacca (safely, thanks for your wishes, dear!) and found a new addition to my family: Mickey. (Hence a new post, just posted, in fact!)
