Freising

Day 2 saw us taking the train to Freising, a small town 35km to the north of München where we visited TU’s Center of Life Science. Fascinating.Seriously, guys, resource management is not as boring as it sounds! I just happened to fall asleep during the talks. But it was a nice place with the green forests and quaint houses.

After that, we visited the town square proper with its great history of bishops, bears with luggage and very old and very recently rebuilt churches. Unbelievable.

I mean, the fact they even bother to keep rebuilding, time and time again. Apparently, it’s a Bavarian thing.

Later in the evening, we went to the Freising Volksfest (Folk Fest, kinda like a “Septemberfest”). We got into a Biergarten (Beer Garden, here it’s a huge tent with rows and rows of long tables and benches where people just sit around and drink beer).

Each of us enjoyed at least a “maß” or 1-litre mug of beer, with the festival band playing rousing music. The beer here is festival beer, much stronger than normal, and I got a little high but not quite tipsy. Really.

Tons of fun.
