Am I the only person who takes a day off after a weekend break? Is this why you people have gotta swamp my mailbox? Sheesh.
Seriously though, I had a wonderful weekend in Freiburg, courtesy of my gracious host, Oliver, and I would like to take this bit of cyberspace to thank him tremendously for everything. More on Freiburg will be coming soon on the travels section, näturlich.
The trip there alone was fulfilling. Its more than six hours duration enabled me to finish a drawing I started in the Englischer Gartens, so this might well be my most travelled-while-being-executed piece yet, whatever that means.
Hundreds of kilometres to finish it and no easy task given the less-than-smooth way trains are. Let’s call this drawing “Three Seasons.” (Why? Well, if you saw it, you’ll know why there won’t be a fourth.)
Speaking of drawings, apparently Shannon’s got hers and already has it framed. Wow. Makes me wonder how many drawings of mine are floating out there. I really haven’t done much over the years. This seems to be a singularly great period for me.
Strangely enough, I don’t have a single one of my own. Makes me wonder why, eh?
Just in case any of you hope to be able to sell any of these in twenty year’s time for a bundle, le me save you the trouble and tell you no one’s gonna buy them. I’m not an artist.
A real artist these days go to art college. I am self-taught (meaning I couldn’t afford the fees). A real artist would use a hundred and one different pens, all of them specially designed and hellishly expensive. I use the same Stabilo finepoint 0.4 you’d do your homework with.
Most importantly, a real artist would get paid. I get nadda. This is fun doing it for friends, but I don’t think money would be an equal inspiration.
If the price is right though …
P.S. Perhaps a miniature gallery of the ink-and-papers could be arranged in the future.
Wir werden sehen.
