We grow old. We all do. And as we get older, sometimes past friendships dim and dissipate. They don’t entirely disappear (though that they do, some do, one cannot predict these things, it seems) but we all know what happens. There is a distance. This is okay for there are a few friendships that still matter, that last and strengthen with the years. Like ivy, grown thick and strong. We are grateful for this.
Let us take heed that there will be surprises – rather nasty shocks, even – if we live long enough. What we think to be gold, ends up wrong. A misstep, perhaps. A mistake. Not harmless ivy, but poison. We are cut, we bleed. Every drop hurts, every blow matters. We grieve.
We will get over it. For all we have to do is let go of this poison ivy (why hold on and suffer?) and find our way back to its truer cousins again. We have true friends, and they, they are worth more than their weight in gold, more than diamonds and truffles.
We will never change the fact we have been cut, but good ivy shall help us mend and once more be whole. Good friends are a blessing and a comfort as we grow old. (Older and wiser, let it be so.)

Kenny, so beautifully said about good friends. How true it is that we can be whole again when we let go.
@Quay Po Cooks: And this letting go – it may well be life-long process. I’m certainly still learning.
Past friendships are just a reflection of how you were, and the current ones are how you’ve grown.
I once came across a magazine quiz that assess how many real friends one truly has. I didn’t do it ‘coz I told myself that I’d rather have four quarters than 100 pennies.
I’m truly honored to have you for a friend.
*HUGS*
@jemima: That’s gonna be my new motto – “I’d rather have four quarters than 100 pennies.”
And I’m so blessed to have you for a friend too, my dear. *HUGS*
No price tag for friendship. :)
@Michelle Chin: Absolutely none. *winks*
