Like Tea for Tai-Tai’s

Sometimes all it takes is the right kinda company. And good tea. Great coffee. Freshly baked cakes. A brilliant afternoon sun, after a quick drizzle.

And there you have it. Tea for three. We pretend we are rich tai-tai’s without a care in the world and we laugh and chat while we sip our tea/coffee.

All it takes is the right kinda company. A girl, a boy, my best friend, a you and a me. That’s tea for three. That’s the life of our party.

A girl, a boy and a boy, my best friend and you and me.

  • Tea for three, and life is good. And rain, and vegan chocolate banana pudding, and Guinness ice-cream in scoops, and friends who make your world sing with colour. :) Tea looks -fabulous- m’dear. I might have to start doing some creative baking – oh, and I had to mention you in the latest entry. :)

  • @Shuku: And my world is indeed singing with colour thanks to friends like you, dear.

I believe Haute Food Co. has at least one gluten-free item on the menu when I surfed through their website earlier, but there’s no harm in checking to be sure.

And ooh, you have me at your last sentence. *runs off to Gluten-Free Cha Boh‘s blog to see*

  • I’m really digging this side of Kenny! But actually come to think of it, if a picture can paint a thousand words, you would have already surpassed all your previous records of word counts with this one post alone. Still such a yellow “cheong hei” man. Hehehe.

Come to my blog and see your happy smiley face ok. :)

  • oh, Haute Co.’s awesome right? RIGGHHHT?

  • Eh, isn’t three supposed to be a crowd? :D

Though I have fond memories of the ’80s sitcom, ‘three’s company.’ wonder if you three are as wacky together as that comedy trio :p

Three is an odd-duck number though, when u think about superhero groupings. There are dynamic duos like batman & robin, captain America & Bucky … And foursomes like reed, Susan, Johnny & Ben. But the only trio I can recall are the Warriors Three…

  • Kenny got together with his friends
and have a little tea at three.
They had a lot of fun and talk
    about anything and ang-koos too.
This friendship means a lot to Kenny
as it really does his heart & tummy good.

  • @alilfatmonkey: Trust me, I had meant to write MORE. But sometimes it does make more sense to let the pictures do the talking, when the pictures tell so much more than any of my words could.

And nope, this ain’t the post with the most pictures (and smallest words-to-pictures ratio). I believe that honour belongs to Where Did Mt. Fuji Go?, which has a grand total of 22 images. Yay!

P.S. Haute Food Co.? Totally Awesome.

  • @Sean: With the Diva and the Devil, three’s never a crowd – more like a sitcom ready to break out at any moment. We are probably wackier than the cast of ‘Three’s Company’, if you can imagine that.

By the way, who are the Warriors Three? Never heard of them. The only superhero trio I can remember is from the 80′s animated cartoon ‘Spider-Man & Friends’ – Firegirl, Iceman and of course, Spidey himself.

  • @jemima:
    Three for tea at three?
    How lovely to see
    Three at three for tea
    Where else could we be
    But at tea for three?

Oh you guys can tell my brain isn’t really working this morning by my responses… urrghh.

  • nice boobs. i mean, diamond.

    Devil looks HAWT!

  • @ciki: Hey, what about ME? What am I, chopped liver?

    *sobs and/or grrrss*

Heh. Kidding aside, yeah they both look hot, don’t they, the pair of them? Devil and Diva, I mean. Ahem.

Saw this post whilst doing some heavy statistics reading and it felt like bliss… all those gastronomic delights…. and KL i feel is a good place to visit …

U , Diva and devil are like 3 musketeers ?

and which book is devil reading

  • @vimesh: KL is a GREAT place to visit, not least for our gastronomic delights and those from the other four corners of the world. Most of our visitors/guests come mainly for the food, and trust me, that’s a very good decision.

    *beams with pride*

And the Three Musketeers? I guess that’s a more appropriate sorta threesome. Heh.

As for which book the Devil’s reading – your guess is as good as mine; I don’t read Chinese unfortunately. I’ll check with him later and let ya know. Bet it’s something very “cheem” and deep and meaningful…

  • A (hot) devil and a (hot) diva for company? You lucky guy. :P

  • @J the chocoholic: The luckiest. *wink wink*

  • Very nice pictures indeed! Nisa’s looking very good! (so are you guys lah)

  • @Lyrical Lemongrass: Thanks very kindly, O dear Queen! We are so honoured to have your royal approval, hehe.

And Nisa/Diva’s gorgeous, ain’t she? Too bad she’s already taken… *sighs wistfully*

  • All elements in place for a perfect afternoon! KL lifts its drab, concrete cloak only on days like this, when the food’s haute and the company even haut-er!

  • @minchow: KL on a sunny afternoon, nothing quite like it. *beams*

  • At least your little poem rhymes. :D

    Mine is beyond help. :P

  • any other similarities that u three share with the gang from ‘three’s company’ then? i remember one guy who was kinda bumbling and kept tripping over things. then there was the serious, no-nonsense brunette and the, ermm, quintessential ditzy blonde secretary, chrissy snow :D

u remember the warriors three from ‘the mighty thor.’ they were these asgardian heroes (very wacky too; one was also bumbling, one was a blond-haired, dashing but dense lady-killer, the last one was serious and somber … hey, the same recipe seems to apply for all threesomes!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warriors_Three and yay, they’ll be in next year’s movie (i hope we won’t blink and miss them!)

  • @jemima: Poetry doesn’t have to rhyme for it to be beautiful and/or meaningful, my dear. And yours was both meaningful, beautiful and funny.

    *hugs*

@Sean: Which one do you think I am? The bumbler, the brunette or the blonde?

Oh I wasn’t a reader of ‘The Mighty Thor’ from back in the days. I may well have a look at the more recent run with John Romita Jr. penciling cos I’m a fan of his artwork, but I think he’s also left the book, hasn’t he?

  • gfad wrote:

  • @gfad: Haha, seduction via haiku? That’s a first! Lemme see —

    If your cleavage shows
Promise, then, my dear, you may
    Well get much, much MORE…

Tee hee. And by “everyone” you are including moi, right?
    *thick-skinned expectant look*

  • Well, if I must pigeonhole all of you, then naturally you’re the bumbler, devil’s the brunette and diva’s the ditzy blonde? Still not enough people for a futsal team though :p
Hmmm, I haven’t picked up a comic book in years, but John romita jr doing Thor is something I’d never have imagined (i’d love to check it out!). I really liked his gorgeous work on uncanny x-men in the ’80s (and he himself was gorgeous in the ’80s. Almost like a young John travolta. Though sigh, that probably means he looks like the current, older travolta today).
Anyways, the golden age of Thor will always be walt simonson’s run on issues #337-382 (the fact that I can still remember the issue numbers after all these years means they’re THAT good) :D

  • @Sean: Actually Diva might well be both the bumbler and the ditzy blonde, with loads of brains too. She’s the perfect imperfect package – all the best things in life you’d want!

Kinda reminds me of Lucille Ball in ‘I Love Lucy’, actually. But, you know, prettier.

*imagines i love lucy set in bollywood*

Re: JRJr. I actually prefer his artwork for ‘The Uncanny X-Men’ in the 90′s. His style darker and cleaner at the same time. Grittier yet more… zen-like brutal?

I have no idea what I’m talking about. Eh.

I have seen Walt Simonson’s artwork for Thor, now that you mentioned it, and I completely agree – it’s amazing. Where have all these gods of comic art gone, after the 80′s?

  • Good coffee. Sweet cakes. Melt-in-your-mouth chocolate. Yum.

  • @Michelle: Oh the chocolate wasn’t the only thing that was melt-in-my-mouth. Hee.

  • I’m going to pretend I don’t know what else was melt-in-your-mouth. =p

  • @Michelle: Right now? It’s a slice of Just Heavenly PleasuresDeath By Chocolate. Oooh so yummy…

Hooray for office teabreaks celebrating November babies’ birthdays!

  • You’re a November baby?

  • @Michelle: Oh, not me. I’m a January child, all beauty and smiles. *ahem*

The November babies are my colleagues, five of them. I am just sharing in their birthday joy… and cake. Heh.

  • January child, eh? Means you get older earlier than most people every year. =)

Birthday joy and cake definitely for sharing. The more the merrier I say.

  • @Michelle: Get older earlier? Yes, that’s definite.

I rather see it as getting to celebrate and share my joy with others earlier… and then spend the other eleven months basking in the glory of another year… *beams beatifically*

  • You make positive-thinking (and typing) seem effortless. =)

    Spread the joy and love.

  • @Michelle: Hahaha… I dunno about positive-thinking, but typing? I can type really fast with two fingers on one hand while the other one is otherwise occupied.

    *winks*

  • And I wonder what that other hand would be occupied with…. Hmm… (My brain is wandering to some weird places, Kenny..)

    *hugs*

  • @Michelle: My other hand? Busy feeding my mouth, of course.

    *pauses, thinks*

…with food. With food, of course. Wherever did your brain wander to, my friend? Ahem.

    *hugs back*

  • *lets out breath, somewhat relieved*

    Hahaha..

  • Lucille ball? Based on photographic analysis, I’d have imagined someone more … Audrey Hepburn-ish :D
Ya, JRJr turned darker after a stint on Daredevil. Saaaay, even though the movie was wholly forgettable, I would love to see them try to reboot the Man Without Fear (heck, I wouldn’t mind Ben affleck taking another crack at him). Enough with Hulk reboots already … It’s a cursed role … We’ve seen Eric bana and edward norton struggle with it over the past decade, and next it’ll be mark ruffalo’s turn to turn green in the avengers movie…

  • @Egg Yolk: Not sure about the “notti” bit, but I’ll take cute, hahaha… Not sure how CK/Devil will take “no comments” though…

@Michelle: Relieved? Yes, well, my rather able hands are known to have that effect also, depending on who you ask. Ahem.

  • @Sean: Well, certainly not the looks – but the slapstick, physical comedy? Totally on the ball (no pun intended).

Aye. Methinks Frank Miller + JRJr was an inspired pairing to tell the story of Daredevil’s origin via ‘The Man Without Fear’ limited series.

And Ben Affleck certainly could do wonders… as the director this time, don’t you think? A grittier, more honest version of the devil from Hell’s Kitchen.

I thought Ed Norton’s version of the Hulk was good actually, except for the cheesy villain bits. But come to think of it, the Hulk’s roster of villains are all cheesy. And green. A lot of them are green, no?

  • agree. to have a great tea, must have good company :)

  • or companies :P

  • @ai wei: Yes, sometimes it’s a lot better to have good company with you AND a great company behind the meal… to take care of the check when it arrives! Hahaha…

  • You have many posts about dining – be it breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or afternoon tea – from kopi-tiams to 5-star elegant restaurants or even at friends’ homes.

    Question:
Do you cook? Do you have friends over as your guineas? Maybe you have posted about them but I really can’t recall reading them. :P

  • @jemima: Yes, I do cook, but ever so rarely. Since I’m living in Malaysia (the true gastronomic heart of Southeast Asia), and in Kuala Lumpur of all the cities, it’s just that much easier to go out and grab a quick (and delicious) bite outside.

I used to cook when I was studying/living in Munich, less now that I’m back home. I’m pretty sure I have blogged about the few times I’ve cooked – lemme go search the archives and come back with some highlights for you.

  • @jemima: …back!

Okay, it’s embarrassing but a quick search only served up two entries (though I suspect I’d find more if I looked further back than 2008):

    1. In & Out: “… a bowl of chicken porridge, gently simmered over hours on slow heat, served with a smattering of slivered eggs (both century and salted), green, crunchy dou miao, saltyoily eggplant and Japanese saba.

    2. The Domestic Goddess (and Her Boys): “Home-made black chicken soup with Chinese herbs. And perfectly steamed rice by yours truly.”

Not exactly stellar, but I did warn you I was lazy… Devil’s a much better and more frequent home cook, I assure you. Heh.

  • Your very able hands, eh? Now, I wonder who would be the right person to ask..

That aside, I think it would help me if I pull my brain in from wandering too far into the weird-erness, and imagine that your very able hands are not somewhere out there doing what they ..um.. do best. I’ll just imagine your very able hands giving my shoulders a good rub .

    =p

  • @Michelle: Hahaha… Oh you do crack me up, you do. Okay, let’s keep this post family-friendly and stick to my able hands giving your shoulders a good rub.

    A good rub. Oh boy.

Never mind. I think we were on safer ground with my best friend’s cleavage back, what, about 20-30 comments ago. *guffaws*

  • Well, if a Hollywood sitcom had to be made about the three of you, I guess we could cast, ermm, Katherine Heigl as the diva? I can’t quite think of any other living actress in her early 30s with comedic chops… (Sam Worthington could be the devil, and, uhhh, Seth Rogen could play you) :D

Ben affleck behind the camera for Daredevil seems like an inspired choice. I’ve been reading great things about The Town, and I liked Gone Baby Gone. Maybe he could get Matt Damon to be Daredevil (though they’d better hurry, since mr Damon is already 40 now).

I’ve never been a fan of the Hulk. On one hand, I guess I should appreciate the psychological analysis about violent manifestations of human rage etc etc. But on the other hand, I just find the whole concept of the character annoying :p

  • Thanks for the links, my friend.

I agree with you about the simplicity of eating out in M’sia especially in KL. After all, where in the world can we have nasi lemak at 3 a.m.? :P

Don’t you just love the expressions of satisfaction on your friends’ faces when you cooked for them (referring to the 2nd link)?

Anyway, I came across this. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against you & your friends for eating out most of the time. But it is something that we should ponder on:

“Home cooking is a catalyst that brings people together. We are losing the daily ritual of sitting down around the table (without the intrusion of television), of having the opportunity to interact, to share our experiences and concerns, to listen to others. Home kitchens, despite the increase in designer appliances and cabinetry, are mostly quiet and empty today. Strangers are preparing much of our food. And our supermarkets, which once considered restaurants and fast-food places the enemy, have joined the trend by enlarging their delis and offering ready-to-eat food they call ‘home-replacement meals.’ But bringing ready-cooked meals home is not the same as cooking in your own kitchen, where you are in control of the ingredients you use, where you fill the house with good cooking smells, and where you all share in a single dish, taking a helping and passing the platter on to your neighbor. Nothing can replace that.”
    — Marion Cunningham, from the introduction to Lost Recipes.

  • @Sean:
    On Seth Rogen ~
Devil gets Sam Worthington and I get Seth Rogen???

I’d imagine I’d get Ed Norton, or an Eric Bana at least. But SETH ROGEN???

    On Daredevil ~
Yeap. I’d love to see Ben Affleck in the director’s chair for ‘DAREDEVIL: Man Without Fear’ (and from what I hear, Darren Aronofsky is now directing Hugh Jackman in ‘THE WOLVERINE’ (sans the silly ‘X-Men Origins’ prefix – what’s with Hollywood and all the prefixes and colons?) – which I think is another inspired choice to delve into the psychology of Logan which neither the solo film or the three X-movies managed to do, beyond scratching the surface.

But I’d go for a new face for Matt Murdock this round, or at least a fresher one. The problem with Affleck as DD in the first movie was that when you watched him in the movie all you saw was Ben Affleck. It’s the “too famous for their own good” syndrome.

    On the Hulk ~
Hmm. Devil and I perform psychological analysis about violent manifestations of human rage all the time when we are stuck in traffic in the roads of Kuala Lumpur.

The Hulk, I assure you, is a far less annoying character than the Mat Rempits…

  • @jemima: Yes, nasi lemak at 3 a.m. This is why we love Malaysia so much.

But we ought not go further about nasi lemak lest the Girl from Abu Dhabi reads this – there is a severe shortage of this indispensable dish over there… Ahem.

And the expression of satisfaction on my friends’ faces when (Devil and) I’ve cooked for them? More like looks of relief that the food is edible after all.

There is nothing like cooking at home using the best and freshest of ingredients for the ones you love, there really isn’t.

  • heheh, since u’re the bumbling one of this sitcom trio, u need to provide comic relief mah. edward and eric are both too old and intense. i couldn’t think of any other good comic actor in his late 20s or early 30s. i’d have given u shia labeouf, but he doesn’t do pratfalls :D

darren aronofsky seems like a great choice for logan. though ermmm, bryan singer looked like a can’t-miss for superman too, and we all know how THAT turned out. at this point though, i’m hoping that a wonder woman movie becomes reality within the next three years. she’s so cool. :P

re mat rempits: if u can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em? :D

  • @Sean: Comic relief? Ed and Eric are neither too old nor are they entirely without comedy chops. Try an IMDB search and you’ll see what I mean.

Mr. LaBeouf is just too lightweight for now. Now intense enough lah. Cos I’m intense. Really.

Hmm. I didn’t think Bryan Singer would work for Superman actually. He’s just too, hmm, adoring of his male stars for that. Speaking of adoring one’s male stars, I’m thinking Gus Van Sant for Superman may be a riot. Whaddya think?

Wonder Woman, eh? I’m thinking Joss Whedon for this one.

  • actually, shia was quite decent in ‘wall street: money never sleeps.’ though i don’t think he quite captures your free-spiritedness the way seth would :D

ergkh. i think the day gus van sant directs a special effects-laden superhero movie is the day michael bay wins an oscar for best director (and i’m sure that’ll never happen … if it does, i’ll, errmm, never eat cockles again!) :P

watching ‘tangled’ tonite! i so love disney animated musicals. i suppose this one won’t really have the innocent charm of ‘beauty & the beast’ and ‘the little mermaid,’ but there’ll still be those cute/catchy songs and soaring ballads :D

  • @Sean: Well, I guess Seth and I do share the same weight and waistline. Sighs.

Gus Van Sant would work wonders on the superhero genre, I feel. Instead of ‘Elephant’, he could do ‘Rhinoceros’ from the Spidey-verse?

‘Tangled’? Heard good things about it. I’m watching HP7 Part 1 in about 10 minutes. Didn’t hear such great stuff about it. Oh well. I already did watch the first SIX films. Might as well continue…

  • That’s the problem with watching these final potter movies, isn’t it? It’s like a joyless obligation. Maybe they shouldn’t have split the last book into two movies after all…

On the other hand, ‘Tangled’ was a surprising charmer. Despite the CGI and 3D razzle-dazzle, it was a real throwback to the early 1990s Disney storytelling. Not sure if I’ll still be able to hum any of the songs after a few months, but I can kinda imagine this movie being turned into a very good stage musical :D

With Toy Story 3 and How To Train Your Dragon being assured nominations for best animated film, it’s gonna be a real nailbiter to see which movie takes the final slot…

  • @Sean: Guess what? Surprise, surprise – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is actually rather good. Well, rapid-paced and not meandering, not much anyway.

Dragging/draggy is usually a complaint aimed at the overbloated Potter movies (except my fave, The Prisoner of Azkaban – which was too short for most fans, not me), like HP6 which I thought was actually good too.

(I remember most fans complained about missing scenes but since I gave up on reading the books years ago, I didn’t really notice.)

I read an interview with the directors(/producers?) of ‘Tangled’ on why it’s not simply named ‘Rapunzel’ like other Disney-fied fairytales and the reason offered was that it’s more of duo film, pairing both the prince and Rapunzel.

Of course, here, we apparently don’t really care – it’s retitled ‘Rapunzel: A Tangled Tale’ – which, for me, loses something in its length what the original gained in its brevity.

  • gosh, not only do we have different taste in food (mangosteens vs durians), literature and, ahem, men, it looks like we disagree on movies too.

the latest potter film bored me to fidgety frustration. i usually love the multiplex experience, losing myself in the darkness and getting immersed in the images on the big screen. but this time, i was checking my e-mail on my phone every 10-15 minutes, simply because i stopped caring about what was happening in the movie. ironically, for a film about wizardry, there was no magic, no charm, no grace, no genuine sense of urgency, no real reason to root for the heroes. the movie was just dutifully going through the motions.

BUT having said all that, i’m still glad to hear you enjoyed it. can’t begrudge your experience or dismiss your judgment just because i didn’t like the movie :D

hmmm, i am cynical though about what the makers of ‘tangled’ said in that interview. there was another theory that they didn’t want to name it ‘rapunzel’ because young boys wouldn’t be drawn to watch it if they thought it was more of a girl’s film (like last year’s box-office disappointment, ‘the princess and the frog’).

but what’s in a name, right? even if they retitled it ‘rapunzel: a tangled tale of torrid hair, toothy smiles and torch ballads,’ it’d still be worth watching :D

  • @Sean: Haha, don’t worry – I can actually imagine you checking your email on your iPhone every ten minutes in the cinema.

You have to understand; my expectations have been terribly, terribly low after the past few Potter movies. The fact that it passes swiftly without too many pointless detours is already a blessing in my book.

It feels more like Emma Watson’s film than the rest, though. And the usual delight of the supporting cast – the crème de la crème of the UK’s actors and actresses – is somewhat dimmed this round. But as I said, it’s a quick pleasure, and that’s a pleasure enough sometimes.

And I’ve heard the rumour of the Other, Real Reason why Rapunzel-Got-Retitled-As-Tangled; wouldn’t be surprised, really. I think the last Disney film I truly enjoyed was ‘The Beauty and the Beast’, what seems like a million, million years ago.

  • by the way, any sight of caramel pecan cheesecake when you were there? i wan that so badly and am wondering when are they selling this as they do rotation on cakes, right?

  • @ai wei: Nope, no sign of the caramel pecan cheesecake yet in the couple of times I’ve been there. Gonna keep trying tough!

  • Ooh, I actually really like Emma. She’s blossomed into such a beautiful young woman. And she sounds really bright and grounded in her interviews too. I’m not sure she’s a great actress, but she sounds like she’ll be really successful in whatever she’ll pursue, even if it isn’t acting. Anyway, all the three Potter kids will be fine, right. Aren’t they all like multi-millionaires by now :D

Gosh, Beauty and the Beast was indeed two decades ago. Since then, I’ve really liked The Lion King, Mulan, Lilo & Stitch, and The Emperor’s New Groove. And I have a soft spot for Aladdin, cos it contains one of my fave karaoke songs, A Whole New World :D Maybe you just don’t like the Disney formula, huh.

Btw, The Social Network has been having its midnight and matinee screenings this weekend, so I guess it’ll open proper in KL this coming Thursday :D

  • @Sean: Emma is hot, isn’t she? And composed and utterly imbued with grace – Devil & I are very much infatuated with her, really.

Her campaign for Burberry with her equally delicious brother, hmm – can we say yummy?

You probably got it right about me & Disney – we simply aren’t meant to be. In my world, ‘The Little Mermaid’ ought to have a far more depressing and diabolical end. Disney creates such great villains but alas! does so little with them.

If Kenny Mah made Disney movies, the VILLAINS would triumph, and in style too, of course.

    Ahem.

Maybe I best stick to watching ‘The Social Network’ next week. David Finicher’s not very Disney, is he?

  • sigh, i guess great genes run in emma’s family, eh. though that’s usually the case with acting/modeling siblings. there are exceptions of course: jake gyllenhaal is beyond hot, but his sister maggie is kinda average-looking. john cusack is/was swoon-worthy, but his sister, joan … not so much (though she’s the oscar-nominated one).

and i think river phoenix was at least 80 percent more dashing than joaquin (don’t you dare disagree. it’s not good to speak ill of the dead). ultimately though, ralph and joseph fiennes are the brothers with whom i wouldn’t mind having tea for three (and beyond) :D

let’s hope that disney never hires u, since u’ll scar the childhood of millions of kids.

hmmm, in ‘the social network,’ the villain (if u can call him a villain) doesn’t actually win. or does he? ok, yeah, mark zuckerberg’s fate in the movie is not quite as clear-cut as what happened to the villainess who locked up rapunzel in ‘tangled.’ :P

  • @Sean: Oh why the sighing? It’s great that great genes run their course, cos this means more great performances cast at lower cost, of course, of course.

Strange that you mentioned the Gyllenhaals; I was just listening to Maggie’s rendition of Billy Joel’s ‘Just the Way You Are’ again (from the film ‘Happy Endings’) and it’s made me wistful, again.

I know she’s had technically better performances but this was the one that broke my heart. If you have not seen this film, you must. Tom Arnold (Roseanne Barr’s ex) also has a stunning turn.

And River, yes. But cut so short, that brilliance.

Ralph over Joseph any day. Better film choices, at any rate.

If I wanted to scar the childhood of millions, all I have to do is write the next Disney film, “Cockled: A Seriously See Hum Tale of Blood, Ick and Gore”, so there.

Did you just spoil the ending of both films for me? Bleh.

  • but u’re always wistful/contemplative/pensive lah. it must run in YOUR genes :D

hmmm, i had to wiki ‘happy endings’ to confirm whether i’ve watched it. i believe i have, since i recall lisa kudrow and the ‘massage therapy’ elements. but i can’t remember anything about maggie in it. lost in the mists of memory, i fear. but i don’t think i liked the movie much…

that billy joel song usually does make me feel a bit sad though. hmmmm.

that cockles movie sounds like it could be a great hit! i can imagine it as a swashbuckling cross between spongebob squarepants and pirates of the carribean :D

not spoiled at all lah. left it more than ambiguous enough. anyways, my dvd watch this weekend was ‘going the distance’ (drew barrymore and justin long), about the travails of a long-distance relationship. sweet, with a fair number of witty lines and laugh-out-loud scenes, but a bit too superficial and slapsticky after awhile…

  • @Sean: Where got? I am rarely wistful. Mostly I just wonder where my next meal is coming from. I’m eternally in famine mode, uhm, famished mode, I mean.

Watch it again. Watch Tom and Maggie and tell me, after that, that you are not moved, and I may never trust that you possess a heart, now or ever. They are amazing together, a performance (and also as performances) entirely without guile or angst. Just honest dishonesty, if that makes any sense.

If I could even write the way the two of them made that work, I would die happy, I would.

And it’s a sad song, yes, but all songs of longing are hopeful also, even though they may be without hope. We learn that we can go on without any; we make do with the memories and the way we were happy, once.

  • @Sean: (continued…)
As for the Cockles Movie… Just don’t nobody go showing the script to Jerry Bruckheimer, please. Seriously.

And how can anything with drewsome Drew and droolsome Justin be anything but perfect? Perfectly saccharine, maybe, but still. Some days we need sugar like this… sugah.

    *sniggers*

  • ya, i’m also wasting away from hunger now. and u had to mention ‘sugar’ at the end. now i’m thinking of all the other desserts that i didn’t manage to order at plan b. sigh (again).

oooh, i noticed while surfing recently there are actually quite a few pan mee outlets at taman desa, including one called ‘ceggo food station’ that serves some unusual varieties, including pumpkin pan mee! alas, my german colleague is currently in vietnam on holiday…

hmmmm, i have to admit i’m really skeptical about ‘happy endings,’ since it left no impression on me the first time. but ok, if i see the dvd somewhere, i’ll pick it up again.

well, i’m hopeful about a lot of things, but i’ve learned to be less hopeful about love. not in a morose or bitter way, but in a shrug-shoulders-and-sigh way…

ok, will reserve the ‘going the distance’ dvd for u (i don’t keep my pirated discs, i give them away after watching them). but yeah, it helps that JustDrew have so much charm. charm really does paper over other flaws :D

  • @Sean: I just had me a hot mug of Milo and a delicious brownie from A Slice of Heaven. Chilled from the fridge (cos I’m too lazy to heat it up) but still scrumptious.

Speaking of a late tea, is your Plan B, uhm, Plan B?

Ceggo Food Station? Not heard of that – where is it? It may be the one opposite Café Libre (in which case, Devil & I have tried it and found it wanting).

I still have a screener DVD of ‘Happy Endings’ (unfortunately with certain scenes in B&W), wanna borrow?

Shrug shoulders and sigh? That sounds almost like a pilates movement. Okay, just kidding. Didn’t mean to tease, but trust me, all the rest of us are still learning too.

Always love, and life, for beginners.

JustDrew. I likee the sound of that. And yeah, I do love them mainly for their charm alone. ‘Tis quite enough. Hee.

  • what a chocolatey teatime treat. woe is me, i’m still finishing up some work at home (no rest for the saintly, in my case!). at this rate, might have to rely on my fiber capsules for nourishment :P

ceggo food station got facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kuala-Lumpur-Malaysia/Ceggo-Food-Station/371039946986 … it says it’s behind behind Hong Leong Bank and next to the Korean Mart (meaningless directions to me, heheh).

sure, i don’t mind screeners with b&w scenes and large-font warnings about how i could be prosecuted for piracy if i copy or distribute it :D

i’ll never forget being smitten with drew in ‘ever after,’ when she played that cinderella character. i still vividly remember thinking, geez, who is this girl and how can anyone be this heartbreakingly radiant? i still loved her subsequently in ‘never been kissed,’ but then she got a bit too predictable. justin has this earnest goofiness that’s also great, though i can’t really remember a standout role for him…

  • @Sean: No rest for the saintly? I thought that’s all the saints do – rest on their heavenly laurels…

And fibre capsules for nourishment? I thought fibre is “a virtually indigestible substance … that passes through the human digestive system virtually unchanged, without being broken down into nutrients.” (Source: http://www.ehealthmd.com/library/fiber/fib_whatis.html)

As for Ceggo, it does sound like the one we’ve patronised before. While serviceable, I think the special dry chilli paste/condiment available at the nearby Face To Face is a stronger selling point for me ol’ spicy-lover me.

Still, any recommendation from Eat Drink KL will get me curious and I’ll definitely drop by again and check out its other types of pan mee, especially pumpkin since I love everything pumpkin. Yay!

Oh gosh, your first Drew Barrymore movie was ‘Ever After’? It’s not very typical of her; I mean it’s romcom like she does, but she’s more subservient in that film (cos of the subject matter, I guess) than in any other film she’s ever been in (I believe she was even cameo-ed in one of Schumacher’s Bat-movies, shudders).

She does have that lovely radiance, does she not? I feel like having a Drew Barrymore marathon – I do love her so. My fave film of hers has gotta be one you liked too – ’50 First Dates’ – agree?

Justin Long is all charm, always. And that’s good ma. (My vote goes to his performance in ‘He’s Just Not That into You’.)

  • the saints don’t always get to rest. sometimes they have to go marching in (though i dunno what for) :P

am sure my fiber capsules got some trace minerals to keep me going. otherwise, i’d sound like a mindless wreck by now. shut up :D

eeks, i’m not recommending ceggo per se. i haven’t tried it myself. but yeah, pumpkin pan mee sounds promising. pumpkin is like a good drew barrymore movie … all mushy sweetness) :D

wonder if got cockle pan mee? i haven’t had cockles with half-boiled eggs before … sounds like a match that both heaven and the devil would approve of! :D

i never took notice of drew before ‘ever after’ (she was just a kid in ‘e.t.’ after all). and somehow, i only watched ‘the wedding singer,’ ‘scream’ and ‘mad love’ after ‘ever after.’

wouldn’t a drew barrymore marathon end up like a chocolate cake marathon though. it’d be great at the start, but by the 3rd or 4th helping of cloying goo, u’d swear off chocolate cake/drew barrymore forever.
didn’t justin play a bit of cad in ‘he’s just not that into you’… hmmmm…

  • @Sean: Angels marching on… sounds like a good line, for something. A post, a poem, a movie, a song?

Oh, and I’m sure I meant saints marching on, not angels. Hmm, why did I go mix that up? Must be some devilry at foot! (And that foot is probably shod by Prada, if my detective prowess is anything to be reckoned with!)

Re: Fibre capsules – No lah, you’re not a wreck. *pauses*
    Uhm, that’s about it.

Pumpkin is like a good Drew Barrymore movie? Now I wish Forrest Gump had said this instead of that crap about life and boxes of chocolates. *sniggers*

See hum & Sang sok dan? O the horrors!

And oh, you just reminded me – I haven’t watched ‘The Wedding Singer’ yet. My life is not complete, seriously. I mean, Drew Barrymore and 80′s music? That’s like peanut butter and chocolate. It’s so good you gotta have it. Yums.

I’d never ever ever swear off choc cake or Ms. Barrymore. Promise promise.

And oh aye, he was. Justin Long a little bit bad goes a long way to being soooo good. Heh.

  • I love that shot with the hands wanting to grab the choc/caramel slices. What a take! Afternoon tea with your favourite people.. how much better can it get? =)

  • @daphne: The shot of Diva’s hand trying to grab the hedgehogs before they are gone? Priceless, innit? Hee.

  • devilry at foot? mixing up your words? if i didn’t know better, i’d think u were trying to tell me that a devil was distracting u by nibbling on your toes while u were typing that :P

what’s ‘sang sok dan’ ar? googling it doesn’t help.

oh, i have the wedding singer dvd. if it’ll help to complete your life, then how can i deny u? with a great dvd collection comes great responsibility :P

  • @Sean: Hmm. Now that’s an idea. Hmm.

‘Sang sok dan’ = half-boiled eggs, the ingredient you suggested pairing with your favourite shellfish-to-torture-me-with, oh, about five comments above?

(It’s Cantonese, in case you’re wondering.)

Hurrah for ‘The Wedding Singer’ on DVD! And oh darn-ness, this means I really REALLY really gotta get moving on the WKW DVD you lent me, what, a year ago, now? How embarrassing.

  • the timing has to be right as well, i.e. in the middle of a late afternoon…

what’s with the close shot on the cleavage? hahahahahaha…

  • zewt: “what’s with the close shot on the cleavage?”

Uhm, what are best friends for? Muahahaha…
