Open the Door

This is for a dear friend who lost a job recently.

.

Open the door.

Walk new roads. Don’t take a taxi. They always cost too much and conversations with someone who recycles his or her tales to every passenger will bore you. There’s a leaf on the ground. Step on it. It should crunch beautifully. There’s a piece of paper two steps away. Pick it up and dispose of it properly. Don’t read it.

Hold your breath if you’re in the city. Find a park, a real one with many, many trees. Stroll, but don’t talk to anyone. Can you close your eyes? Why not? Try it. Now breathe. It may not make you feel better but everyone needs oxygen.

You need to remember this as you walk back home and through the front door. Know that it may shut behind you but you can always open it again.

And, don’t forget, look back and smile. For it was good.

.

I’ve heard that she feels much better evidently, but I think she shouldn’t waste this. Maybe she could get depressed and pissed off again, then read this and feel better? Just a thought.
