Ramadan Reflections VII: A Pretty Girl is Like…

A pretty girl is like a minstrel show, so the song goes, it makes you laugh, it makes you cry. Oh! but what beauty to behold! She makes you wish she’d swoon so you could catch her and carry her and court her. Ah! but it’s never this easy; you can’t trust everything you watch on TV. She’ll make you go wild with tears and with fury, as she teases and she tempts, as she rebuffs your every eager attempt. A pretty girl will give you many beautiful migraines, a pretty girl will drive you happily insane.

A pretty boy like a many-coloured flag does unfurl; a perfect fantasy with whom you wouldn’t mind in bed to curl. The sweetest smile, a geeky pair of glasses that makes your knees weak. The end of the world that you would journey endlessly to seek. Ah! but it’s only a fantasy; you knew this, you could see – the moment your eyes met, his heart is meant for another girl. Oh! but still – it’s fun to wish and to want, to wonder if he’d wander. He’ll make you grin as silly as a bee. Every night in your dreams is where he’s meant to be.

  • Pretty girls/boys break hearts.
    Goodhearted girls/boys mend them.

  • @jemima: Let’s hope I’m considered a good-hearted boy then. (I certainly found one to mend my heart some years ago now. Yay.)

  • I take it that’s the pretty boy of your dreams?

pretty amazing spread he’s got there (I’m talking about the food!)

  • @mr sekimachihato: Hahaha. No, not all – the featured chap-of-the-day here is actually Devil CK’s new colleague.

And mayhaps this lucky chap has found the girl of his dreams, one shouldn’t wonder. Here’s to joyful hearts beating in unison! *winks*

P.S. I am sure you meant the food. Uh huh.

  • the food looks really good. i wanna give this place a go!

  • @Michelle Chin: Oh you should! il Lido is one of the consistently good Italian restaurants here in Kuala Lumpur. And its location can’t be beat for those of us working near KLCC.

I believe they have gone pork-free recently though, so if it’s porcine fare you are seeking…

  • so, who’s the pretty boy? I can see what he’s been up to, yar. :)

  • @ciki: The pretty boy? Maybe it’s best he remains a mystery… (Though if one just scroll up a few comments, the mystery may well be revealed, haha.)

And yes, Mr. Devil CK’s certainly been up to some fun activities without me. I feel so abandoned. *pouts*

  • What happen to the pics of my other colleagues??

  • @Devil CK: Your other colleagues? Why, I believe they may be safely found here, in your blog post about your wonderful il Lido experience with them.

Didn’t want to steal ALL your thunder ma, so only stole these selected pictures. Ahem.

very good lookng pretty boy indeed…

  • @Winnie: Can’t disagree with that! *winks*

  • Wah got new model to pimp on the blog eh? Another new didi? LOl

  • @alilfatmonkey: Easier to get fresh faces on this blog than to give the actual blog a makeover and a fresh look ma… *sniggers*

  • Augustdiners wrote:

i was deliberating what to eat tomorrow night, looks like i dont need to look further than this… but why Pork Free?? It’s such a waste and our hope for some wonderful oinks in a decent italian restaurant is dashed!

  • @Augustdiners: Well, my guess would be that it’s to appeal to the masses, rather than solely non-kosher clientele. I have dined there in the past before they went pork-free and man, was it ever yum-yum-yummy! *nostalgic salivation ensues*

  • The sweetest smile “with a single dimple”, a geeky pair of glasses that makes your knees weak. = this happened to me :p

  • @babe_kl: Awww, you mean your better half Cap’n Hook? Nothing quite like falling in love and remaining in love even after the years have passed.

    Thanks for sharing, dear. *hugs*

  • Wootz… hehe, yeah, we can all dream, can’t we? *wink*

  • @Pureglutton: Oh hell yeah. *double winks*

  • eh, i confused lah. what’s the connection between ramadan reflections and pretty boys and girls? :D

p.s. re your whatsapp message pointing me to this post. hmmmm. i guess i’d give a 6.5/10 rating. heheh :P

  • @Sean: Uhm, pretty boys and pretty girls are nice to reflect upon during this month? For me, at any rate. Hehe.

    P.S. Only 6.5/10? Cis.

  • good looking people are trouble! haha. nice pics again! both the boy and the food :)

  • @luuworld: Oh but they are the BEST kind of trouble, no? Glad ya approve! Hehe.

  • @Sean 6.5 only? Wah your standard’s really high lor. LOL

  • @a lil’ fat sh*tstirrer: That also what I thot lor… I wonder what gets a 10 in his book… *evil grin*

  • Yeah man… it’s like not good enough for a michelin star liddat. LOL

  • @a lil’ fat sh*tstirrer: Yeah, man. Not that I’m throwing away Michelin stars like it’s going out of fashion but c’mon, I’d rate this at least one Michelin, right?

Wait… are we still talking about food here? *guffaws*

  • but you reflect on them EVERY month! to be more accurate, you do more than merely reflect. alas, i have to stop there, since you insist on making this a family-friendly blog. :P

p.s. good already wat. 6.5 is what shia labeouf would get as well :D

  • @Sean: This month’s reflections are far more friendly-friendly than my usual ones, on account of its holy nature. And no what, I where got always reflect-reflect one. Crazy ar you.

P.S. Everyone wants to know – What gets a Perfect Ten, then?

  • I know I know, the radiant one will get 10 out of 10. Oh we saw him at cocotei yesterday leh.

  • @Devil cK: Wow. Man! Did anyone hear the crack of that whip? The sound of that magnificent bitchslap?

You, Mr. Devil cK, sir, are a champion! *evil grins*

  • Wow. Man! Did anyone hear the crack of that whip? The sound of that magnificent bitchslap?

You, Mr. Devil cK, sir, are a champion! *evil grins*

You mean if Devil cK is a woman, then (s)he would be classified as a super-bitch with that comment, ya? :p

  • @jemima: Hahaha, cute lah you. But to answer your question – No, not really.

    Here’s why:

    1. That particular moniker you are referring to may be applied equally to both genders these days – equality of the sexes, hurrah!

    2. A ‘bitchslap’ probably indicates a smack to the slap-ee, not the slap-per, if that makes any sense. *chuckles*

  • 完全理解。

    大家都是平等的。

*I hope google translate didn’t make a mockery of what I’m trying to say. LOL

  • @jemima: Wow. For once Google Translate did a pretty decent job of it.

The pinyin, for those who can’t read Chinese characters (like me): Wánquán lǐjiě. Dàjiā dōu shì píngděng de.

    Not half bad. Yay.

  • Your Devil takes very nice food photos. Pretty food.

  • @Baby Sumo: Pretty food. I agree. Not the only pretty thing in this post though…

  • hey kenny, reminds me of this afternoon a stranger ( well not totally stranger, bumped into him a couple of times but dont know him) said something sweet about me..ahem..haha..but no lah, hopefully will not dream about him tonite! the 四眼弟弟 is pretty boy, good boy or dangerous boy??

  • @lena: Now, now… Why ever wouldn’t you want to dream of the sweet stranger tonight? Could be some interesting dreams there… *chuckles*

As for the “four-eyed little brother” (sì yǎn dìdì), I’ve no clue if he’s good or dangerous (given how Devil CK’s been hiding that fellow away from my harmless attention), but he sure ain’t hard on the eyes, is he? *winks*

  • What?!? The Radiant One was at CocoTei?! How come you all keep bumping into him?! Who’s stalking who?!?

  • @Sean: No one’s stalking anyone – we just seem to bump into The Radiant One more often than you do. Perhaps us not actually trying to catch a glimpse of The Radiant One by constantly running back to the previously mentioned macaron-serving establishment (unlike someone we could name, cough, cough) helps in this matter?

If it makes you feel any better, Devil has been trying to catch a whiff of their notoriously not-available peanut butter macarons but they always seem to have run out. However, the two times I’ve gone alone without Devil – voila! peanut butter macarons galore.

Life’s like that lah, bro. Some things are fated, others are…
    *cue evil cackles*

  • Cute…. lke his “rabbit teeth” :P

  • @Choi Yen: Rabbit teeth? Brings good fortune, duncha know? Hehe.

  • ahhh…but how sweet when that fantasy turns into reality when one day the pretty boy tells u that he likes u too…

    but seriously… it’s a lot of work after that… n a real workout to ur self-esteem… not something i’d recommend but then again… i wouldn’t trade him for anyone else… :)

  • @asstha: Everything good and worth the while requires some hard work – that’s what adds meaning to the experience, ja?

  • i do wonder though, how many other people in KL (besides us) have fallen under the spell of the Radiant One and are also worshiping him from afar. there could be enough of us out there to start a thriving fan club! :D

  • @Sean: “…besides us”? Er, dude – so far The Radiant Fan Club is made up of a single member, i.e. you. *guffaws*
