  • Kenny,
Personally, I did not like this one (did not understand and very hard to read the words if the background is so crowded).

The ski short story, I enjoyed, even reading it backwards sentence by sentence(scrolling bottom up). Cycling barber, I enjoyed, even went back to read the intro. This one, a little hard on me. Sorry….

  • Yes, it is a bit experimental. I’m amazed you read the Ski story backwards — this must be some sort of achievement, surely! :)

  • If the story is readable backward, whoever that wrote it must be talented.

While reading to my kids, I thought perhaps, you could venture into children’s books. I don’t remember reading good Manglish (Malay-English) story books, if any. The library that I bring my baby to, has at least 20 copies of the same baby book. Each week we visit, each baby get to read different book. And that is just one library in the county that we live in.

But browsing thru your recent postings, I have second thoughts.

How was your recent reading? Which short story or poem did you end up reading?

  • My recent reading went better than expected; the audience were very appreciative and patient with me.

I read I Am Woman (dedicated to the ladies in the audience) and two pieces from Broken MorningsIs This Missing You? and Only the Greatest Gets to Go.

What do you mean exactly when you said you have second thoughts?

  • Kenny,

I really enjoyed reading the cycling barber story. I have to check out your Broken Mornings.

I remember “I am woman”, that was the post that attracted me to your blog in the first place. I was attracted to the title, but I was confused when I saw the name of the author. So, I stayed. And it was reading your blog, (and Lydia’s blog) that inspired me to write my current blog, “Streams in the Hip Desert”.

I have second thoughts because it may not be the direction you are heading, just by looking at your current few postings. You are versatile, you will be great at writing anything. If you love something, you best work will show, easily. However, you could try something new and learn to love it, the hard way. Do you see yourself writing children books? How about a Malaysian version of Harry Potter?

    My humble opinion.

  • mrshbt,
Ah, I see now what you mean. I would love to write children books one day, but not yet. I believe they may be the hardest to write, simple as they may seem, as you have to find that little bit of magic that reaches out to the minds of children. That sense of wonder.

This is why I love writers like Roald Dahl who can juggle both children and adult books — he is better known for his children books, but his more mature short stories are amazing too!

I might be illustrating a Young Adults fantasy, but it’s too early to tell. Who knows what the future might bring? :)

  • Kenny,

Once you have your own children, writing children books will be so easy, it will be like breathing air. OK. I will end right here. You don’t have to reply to this comment.
