I always like a good long one, don’t you?
The thicker the better; I like it meaty. I mean, who likes scrawny sausages anyway? Those mini-frankfurters, soft lumps that wouldn’t arouse even the most accommodating of appetites? No, the verdict is final: If you like your meat, it’s gotta be German. No sausages will do for me unless it’s an honest-to-goodness wurst.

.
Hühnerwurst. Bockwurst. Knoblauchwurst. Lammwurst. Currywurst. Nürnberger bratwurst. Weisswurst.
The menu goes on and on in German, but the message is clear: We love our sausages here. Be it a trinity of traditional Munich veal and pork sausages or a more modern fusion dish of a pork and curry sausage slathered generously with chili-curry sauce, it’s all good. Meat, meat and more meat. You can’t go wrong.
They come with the essential sauerkraut and some potatoes prepared in a satisfying manner – roasted, mashed, deep-fried wedges or even as a salad. But it’s the meat that’s the star; it’s the meat that we long for; it’s the meat that we came for.

Wash this down with genuine Bavarian beer – a cold half-litre glass of Paulaner Weißbier would do magnificently – and you are transported back to Munich, more than nine years ago and you’re a student again, almost a decade younger and it’s summer in the Englischer Garten and you’re sitting at the wooden tables and benches with all your friends from all round the world, the gravel beneath your bare feet, your toes sinking into the spaces between the pebbles, the dapple-shadows of the chesnut leaves above your head and the smell of a freshly-grilled halbes Hendl whetting your appetite.
You are young again, you are filled with joy.
You open your eyes and you’re in an upmarket German beer bar and restaurant in Singapore, surrounded by your good friends here. Outside, it’s drizzling. It’s always summer. Your friends are trying to play a game of Scrabble using an iPad and two iPhones. Some snatches of conversations auf Deutsch pass your ears. It’s not quite the same, but the feeling is even better. That was then, now is now, and oh God! you’re here! yes! you’re here!

So what was the highest word score! :)
@Paul: Oh you gotta ask the Devil or Keropokman on that one – I was busy being flabbergasted at them using three iDevices to play a simple boardgame of Scrabble! Hehe.
My memory is as short, I can’t remember the highest word score!
;-p
i lost….
@keropokman: It was a close game though – you were very focused and serious, I remember… Now you know why he’s called the Devil… it’s not the Devil Wears Prada only… it’s also the Devil Plays Scrabble!
*chuckles*
Ooh I hope Scrabble mobile app isn’t limited to just Apple devices! I love them offline, loved them on Facebook and now I just need to find an Android version to shun real-life conversation forever and ever!!
I can’t remember the highest score too, but I think we didn’t finish that game, left a few tiles each, but we were rushing to catch the coach.
@ keropokman : We play again next time!!!!
Wahhh so hi tech these days! I nearly succumbed to one of these but luckily no stock on that day kekeke.
The Devil Wears Prada..
The Devil Drives Ferrari..
The Devil Writes Poems..
The Devil Eats Sausages..
The Devil Plays Scrabble..
What’s next???
@minchow: Oh dear. You like Scrabble on Facebook? You know now Devil’s gonna hunt you down and force you to be his new Scrabble buddy, don’t you?
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!
@Devil: That’s true. I was convinced we were gonna miss the coach back to KL on account on both of you trying to beat the other. I think the grumpy, foul look on my face may have persuaded you two to try again another day…
@babe_kl: Me, I’m still waiting for my iPad to fall upon my lap one day, perhaps from the sky. Heh.
@jemima: The Devil wins the lottery and I get my iPad and become a tai-tai for life? *keeps fingers crossed*
Not very good at it, but love a good game of Scrabble! :) Even better if there are lots of yummy sausages around. lol.
(So who won?)
@J the chocoholic: Methinks I’d go for the sausages instead (especially if them sausages were Bavarian wursts)…
The winner? It remains to be seen…
i too like it thick and long. just sayin.
An enjoyable outing with good company, and the food looks great too.
that was 6 months ago at brotzeit :)
Nah ah. La salchicha de espanyol FTW!!! (chorizos in particular :D)
@ciki: I bet you do. *guffaws*
@ck lam: Plus great Bavarian beer! That’s always a nice bonus, hehe.
@xiu long bao: Hehe. I know. I’ve got a terrible backlog.
@Jun: Say what??
Oh how canggih! I mean Scrabble on an iPad with iPhones! Would like to try that!
As for the wienerwurtz, I’ll pass as I’m a veg but still, they look good! :p
@kyh: I wonder if there is a vege-wurst? But it sounds so wrong though…
@minchow : let’s start a game, hahaha, I play both lexulous and scrabble on FB.
*buek*… vege-wurst kenny??? trust me it’ll go faster than d time McDonald’s tried to sell that veggie burger… *yuck*…
but I do agree… them German sausages are THE best but don’t snub them franfruters either ei… come down one day (erm, nite) and let’s go for a bite (bring Devil along la)… I hvn’t seen u in years wei…
@Devil: I tried warning her about you… but it’s too late now! Hehe.
@asstha: And here I thought there was nothing worse than a vege-wurst. Tee hee.
You bring the wursts and I’ll bring the Devil. Deal?
WOW, so high tech…i thought you cant play scrabble on the iphone? can ah? I’m guessing devil won big time?
@Always Thrashed By Devil At Scrabble a.k.a. FatBoyBakes: Dun bluff. Devil says you thrash him at Scrabble all the time too. One of you must be bluffing lah. Hehe.
(And, uhm, as the comments above reveal, no one won cos there wasn’t time to finish the last couple of rounds.)
To Always Thrashed By Devil At Scrabble a.k.a. FatBoyBakes:
I just checked the stat again, we played 42 games in lexulous and you WON 23 !!!!!
Wow, you make Brotzeit look better than it ever could be! You have me craving the food again! But it won’t be the same without you guys and Scrabble!
I like long, meaty, thick & juicy~ I mean sausage ^^
Ahhh!!! This place… seemed deserted when I was in Mid Valley few weeks ago! But then I read rave reviews on this place.. especially on the pork knuckle :) your verdict?
good news! the pirated dvd for ‘never let me go’ is out in stores! have bought but not yet watched. the seller claimed the quality was acceptable.
(how is this connected to your blog post? well, andrew garfield is supposedly very good at scrabble) :D
I thought you are the writer? And you don’t play Scrabble?? Dun bluff..
Haven’t played Scrabble for ages! My lil flat is so tiny and I have so few cupboards, and yet I can manage misplace my BIG Scrabble set!! Haiz…
Hairy!! Did you lose some more weight?? I gotta start running then.. :D
@Camemberu: Haha, does it look better than it is? Hard to remember – it has been six months after all! Let’s gather again for more sausages and Scrabble!
And I have to say it’s not the same without you guys either. Everytime I head down to Singapore – the highlight’s meeting up with all of you. So much fun!
*hugs*
@mimid3vils: Oh… I am SURE you do. Ahem.
@Leo (thule): Unfortunately, I can’t give a verdict for two reasons:
1. It was the Vivocity/Singaporean branch that we visited, not the MidValley/KL one. And you know different outlets would have diferent chefs, so the food quality may vary. (“May” – as I’m not implying anything here. Just a possibility.)
2. More importantly, we only had sausages, schnitzel and tons of pommes frites – didn’t get to try the pork knuckle, so can’t give an opinion of it.
But I’m keen to try it out one day and taste for myself!
@Sean: Hahaha, so random! And yet you found a way to connect it somehow. Brilliant.
Well, go and watch it – then we can do a DVD exchange when we meet up next. (Both sets of DVDs are yours, of course, which may make it tough to qualify as an “exchange” but who’s keeping track, right? Hehe.)
@gfad: I really don’t play Scrabble. I find it too… competitive. And everyone knows I am not competitive by nature. *coughs, coughs*
Hee.
As for real-world Scrabble sets, I got Devil one ages ago but we never got round even cracking the plastic wrapping cos he’s so addicted to the online version…
Scrabble or Sausage? haha
But nice picture yah ….
@Prodigal Lulu: Somehow my guess would be that you’d go for the sausage… ahem.
Scrabble definitely not for me…lol
So you’d know ….
@Prodigal Lulu: Hahaha… I guess I do know, then. *winks*
looks like you had a great meal there..german sausages, german beer..thought i’ll be seeing some german ladies sitting next to you..
@lena: Oh there were plenty of German ladies sitting next to me… in a previous life of mine, nearly ten years ago, when I was younger and frolicking in the Munich summer.
I have to say, Singaporean ladies and gentlemen are just as fun, if not more so! Hehe.
u like em big eh? *sniggers*
Sigh, too bad I had to leave early that day to pack up for the US trip. I’ve not played Scrabble in a longgggg time! Here’s an idea – playing FoodScrabble, where only words related to food are allowed!
Ahem, I like my sausages waxed. Just like ‘em Chinese kind.
Gfad, no lah, I didn’t lose more weight. That pic was taken last year. I’m a healthy, chubby kid again! n_n
@alilfatmonkey: Don’t you? *sniggers*
@Nic: FoodScrabble? Oh, that’s a brilliant idea! Somehow I got a feeling food bloggers are gonna have a distinct advantage on this game.
Waxed sausages, eh? Waxed. Hmm…
lols… more like u bring the Devil and I’ll bring u two to this little place… (altho at this point I’m pretty sure u might’ve been there b4)…
@asstha: Ooh. You got me curious. What little place is this? Come, come, tell, tell…
You should’ve been there. It’s in TTDI… Tom, Dick & Harry’s… there’s this one dish they serve franks wrapped in bacon… *yum*… double porkie goodness… Hv u been there b4? (If you hvn’t, I hereby sentence you to have your first visit with me… and if you hv… u still hv to make ur next visit there with me) :P
@asstha: No, I haven’t – I think – though I’m certain many of my friends have tried getting me to go there. I’m terribly lazy… but for porky goodness… I’d so make an exception! Hahaha…
lols… pls name ur date… but seeing CNY is jz ard d corner let’s make it for after cny? need the date cos the last time i went (on a weekday nite), it was packed n we (2pax) cudn’t find a space to squeeze in n had 2 go to the pub nxt door… they also served pork but somehow wasnt as nice as TD&H
@asstha: Hmm. Then it would probably have to be sometime in March cos we’re heading off to Taipei right after CNY… Hehe.
(Which will add more unwritten stories to my already-sizeable backlog…)
wahhhhhhhhhhh……. so niceeeeeee…. Taipei… *envy*… i shall live it in ur blog then… looking forward to reading em…
hmmm, we’ll hv 2 play by ear then… i do worry once the confirmation for my current job is set (should be around Feb), they might be sending me to miri… :(
@asstha: My readers ought to start taking bets as to when these Taipei posts might appear, considering my backlog for Krabi, Budapest, Cameron Highlands, Beijing, Sabah, Macau, Vienna, Amsterdam, etc.
*faints from sheer pressure of the undertaking*
