Last year’s pussy willow still stands in its pot in our dining room. Its white blossoms have a fine coat of grey; the red packets that hang from its branches are twelve months past their due. Yet spring has not arrived and the change of guard must wait a little longer. We keep our faith with our willow and we give thanks a while more. The tiger must give way to the rabbit, we know, but not for days, a couple of weeks. The pussy willow still smells as sweet, despite its greying white and its fading red.

Erm. Spring cleaning (super) overdue? LOL.
J the chocoholic: Like you wouldn’t believe. Hehe.
I just bought 2 bundles of new pussy willows, sprayed RED, no less, hehe! CNY is upon us, yay!
Happy Chinese New Year!!!! wait a minute.. too early right.. LOL.. errr.. happy pussy willow!!!!
I want those ang-pows!!!
My pussy willows are being used for the 3rd year in a row :P they are red by the way!
Ahhh… looking at them made me in festive mood already
yes, all must tremble and bow down to the rabbit as my year approaches at long last!!! :D
@Pureglutton: Red pussy willow? Wah, very ong (lucky) lah! Hooray for Chinese New Year!
@ciki: Never too early for CNY greetings – DONG DONG CHIANG! Hooray!
@jemima: But they are empty wor…
@Leo (thule): Three years in a row? Hmm… maybe we should have reused ours instead of buying new ones (which we already did). Oh well, the more the merrier!
@Sean: The Year of Eat Drink KL (wabbit-style)?
If i were you, just add some rabbit decor around the ‘pussy’s willow’ and pretend it’s for the new year…i’ve learned that the road to riches starts from a frugal lifestyle.
@a lil’ fat monkey: Too late for that, bro – we already bought a new potted pussy willow PLUS some pussy willow stalks (cos these were longer than the potted one) PLUS a vase for the stalks.
So much for frugality. So much for riches. Well, at least we’ll have rich friends like you. Hooray!
Empty also want…
I’m a collector. :p
@jemima: What a coincidence! I’m a collector of angpows too… but only those which are not empty, hehe.
it’s still alright if you do not want to change this old bunch of pussy willow but at least change the angpow packets.. i think they should be a little dusty too.
Happy Chinese New Year. Please prepare AngPow to distribute. Thank you.
@lena: I think we’re gonna play it safe and change both the angpows and the pussy willow. After all, the new year is time for ringing in the new and the abundant, right?
@Prodigal Lulu: Only married folks distribute angpows la. Heh.
oh definately, i change that every year but i thought you are the few ones that will keep for years before throwing it away. hey, have you tried putting iced water in it?
@lena: What does the iced water to do it? *curious*
i heard that they are supposed to last longer in iced water since they are grown under cold climate condtions. they put in iced water like 2 or 3 times/week, the leaves will grow too.
@lena: Oh, that is useful information! Will try it with my pussy willow… hopefully get some green leaves from this technique. Thanks!
o.O
i want pussy wiwwow toooo!!!…
@asstha: Available at a plant nursery or IKEA near you…. Hehe.
I have a pussy willow. It sits inside my cupboard for 9 months in a year. Time to bring it out. Would you believe it? I have forgotten how I decorated it. Thank goodness I blogged about it last time, and now can refer to the pictures! :D
@gfad: That’s actually a brilliant idea – take photos of how one decorates, then it’s so much easier to replicate it a few months or even years later!
