The Hug

You are not friends and you are not family. Not lovers tentative and tender with their first embrace nor lovers about to say their last goodbye. You are strangers and that is okay. Hug him and hug her and hug each other. We all can do with a hug every day.

  • I am teaching my daughter to hug every now and then.. just to tell her that this is the way to show love :) I don’t mind hugging, as I am used to hugging people when in oversea. But when I got back, realised that the Chinese culture is pretty much conservative :)

  • @Leo (thule): Yes, it does take some getting used to for our more conservative family and friends. But there’s just something about a hug that is simply unique and special, don’t you agree?

  • A hug. A smile. A wink. And ‘nice arms’. All things that makes the heart flutters and warms up the soul.

    Happy Thaipusam!

  • @alilfatmonkey: *guffaws*

Especially them ‘nice arms’, mate. Them truly, uhm, warm up the soul. Hehe.

    Happy Thaipusam!

  • i don’t do hugs! touchy-feeliness is anathema to me :D

  • @Sean: Hugs don’t have to be touchy-feely… They can be real macho too. You sure you don’t want a huggle-wuggle? Hehe.

  • let me give you a ‘big hug’ first..**HUGS**
that’s the reason why god created arms for us. I have these bunch of friends who will always give hugs whenever we see each other, though all of us are not to that extreme close relationship, but those hugs are really nice, it makes us feel so good, it could even help to reduce our stress level, brightens up our mood.. let me give you another hug..*HUG HUG*..it’s free!

  • I’m gonna give you & the Devil a hug when we finally meet…

    For now it’s CYBER-HUGS!!!

  • You know what we should so do? There’s this cult-like trend in Japan where people stand outside busy areas like Harajuku, offering “Hugs for free.” And they genuinely just do that, give you a real hug, not one of those wimpy half-arsed conciliatory pats. I wonder what would happen if we tried to replicate that here? Probably get hauled up for soliciting physical contact, you think?

I like hug. It make us feel warmth. Sometimes simple action speaks all.

  • @lena: Haha, I love your explanation, dear… and I love your hugs!

    *BIG HUGS BACK*

@jemima: Cyber-hugs work too, till we meet in person. A hug a day keeps the blues away, right?

  • @minchow: Really? Hey, how come no one offered me free hugs when I was in Harujuku last year? Feel deprived now. Hahaha….

I know what you mean about those wimpy, half-hugs. If you’re gonna give someone a hug, might as well make it a decent one, right?

Not sure what the authorities will say about a “Hugs for Free!” campaign here. They aren’t exactly big on PDA, are they? (Maybe if we market this less as affection and more of brotherly-and-sisterly sharing of joy?)

  • @Prodigal Lulu: Aye. Simple action does speak all and everything.

  • ohh i have started advocating hugs few years back! truly a simple yet meaningful gesture

  • @rokh: I guess I’ll be getting more hugs from you then! *winks winks*

    *big hugs*

Don’t quite hug over here, but plenty of cheek-to-cheek-hands-on-shoulders/arms greetings.. :D

    Which is your fave hug?

    a. Bear hug – big enveloping squeeze.
    b. Man hug – shake hands first, then pull closer and hug with other hand while first hand is still in shake-hand position
    c. Fatherly hug – gentle hug while patting on the back.

For some reason, I remember FBB’s first hug. I think he was rather surprised when I gave him one when we first met!! :D

  • @gfad: I usually do bear hugs, I guess. Man hugs for male acquaintances whom I’m not so close too, but for guy friends who are tight with me, bear hugs straightaway. *beams*

  • gfad wrote:

And what kind of hugs do you give girl friends who are tight with you? *beams back*

  • @gfad: Uhm, gigantic grizzly bear hugs? Hehe.

  • I read somewhere some time ago that girls (I’m sure it’s the same for boys, though) who get 7 hugs a day are generally happier people.

And hey, hugs are awesome. Every time you give one away, you get one back!

    *HUG*

  • @Michelle: Seven hugs a day, huh? Well, I must be sure to get my daily recommended dosage, then!

Here’s one for the count: *HUG!!*

  • now… i need a hug… very hug deprived… :(

me too love to be hugged but most ppl onie give the half-hearted ones… me likey the ones them bone-crushing-take-my-breath-away-bear-hug kinda hugs (so much so my bf sometimes have to resort to pinching me to let go before he dies of suffocation)… unfortunately i usually give em far more often that i receive em… *sobs*

  • @asstha: Here’s one just for you now —

    *BIGBEARHUG!!!*
