Viola Davis Eyes

You ask me who I think will win Best Actress at the Oscars. I say I think it’s Meryl’s year again, finally – but I wish it was Viola Davis. You hmmph and say your guess is the reverse – you feel Davis will win but think Streep deserves it.

And we argue.

It doesn’t matter though. They are both wonderful women and amazing actresses and we are two film geeks who are still crazy about films and film trivia after all these years. What I have learned is that I can spend all day watching Youtube videos of Viola Davis talking. It’s not her eyes, you see, that dazzle me though they are large and pretty. It’s her voice, full of passion, full of wisdom, full of conviction. A voice that inspires.

If I were a country, I would want Viola Davis to be my leader. If I were a faith, I would want Viola Davis to be one of my flock. If I were a story, I would want Viola Davis to tell me, to trace me from dreams to a living tale.

It’s her voice, you see. Oh what a voice.

  • despite all the accolades & praise that she’s probably received & heard & endured every day for the past six months, i kinda believe that ms davis would be touched & very much appreciative if she ever reads your tribute to her. really nice, really :D

eeeeeee, it’s only eight more hours & 56 minutes till the show starts. not sure i’ll be able to fall asleep before then!

  • @Sean: She’s one classy lady, that’s for sure. And hurrah to watching the Oscars live (for some of us, at any rate – I’ve a full day or running around).

Oh! So, if the leader was Viola Davis, Lady Gaga would become what in the country? :p

  • @Rad: Again, I’m sure her Gaga fans will find a country for her, hehe.

  • Ahem. Went to Google Viola Davis. Hehe. Don’t think I’ve ever heard her speak.

  • @Michelle: Now that you have heard her voice — isn’t it astounding?

  • voice does matters eh

  • @Michelle Chin: Well, maybe not to Jean Dujardin — the Frenchman won the Best Actor Oscar having only spoken two words aloud during his entire time on film (this is the Best Picture ‘The Artist’, I mean).

  • Man, I’ve not watched a single Oscar nominated film this year.

I also had to google Viola Davis.

  • @Baby Sumo: Viola Davis didn’t win the Oscar as I had feared but I believe her day will come.

In the meantime I can honestly say I’m very happy that Meryl Streep won and more so that I’m happy for my Oscar-watching friend who was rooting strongly for her. Everybody’s a winner at the end of the day. Hurrah!

  • I agree with you on the voice of Viola Davis. She looked absolutely stunning in that emerald-hued Vera Wang gown at the Oscar! Too bad she did not win the leading actress award. I wish she did.

  • @Quay Po Cooks: I feel both ladies are winners in their own ways last night.
