It’s a bit of a trek, but we head to one of our favourite cafés (certainly the most secluded one that we know of), closer to Suvarnabhumi International Airport than to the city centre. From condominium to condominium (yes, the café is inside one), it takes about half an hour given the Bangkok traffic. If we are lucky.
Once we arrive, however, we discover (or rediscover) an oasis just off the eastern end of the Rama IX Road. White walls. A pool by the café entrance. Lots of sunlight. Eclectic bric-à-brac adorn the space. We smell the aroma of coffee being brewed. We say hello to the baristas; they recognise us though we don’t drop by as often as we’d like.
What would we like? Filter coffee, for sure. We mull over the barista’s recommendations and make our selections. Now comes the fun part. The pastries and the cakes.
A brown butter banana muffin or dark chocolate cake, infused with stout? An almond croissants, the flakes arranged like the diamond-shaped plates along a stegosaurus’ back, or a more decadent one, promising oozing salted egg yolk when we tear into it?
This is a good problem to have, we decide. What to eat and what to drink.
What to do with our day? Well, we’ve already solved that one, haven’t we?
The best questions in life are the simple ones. The ones with no wrong answers.
