The way of the alpaca

Chew, spit, chill out

By Kenny Mah

Discovering a herd of shaggy alpacas in New Zealand can be astonishing at first. We are used to the idea of these domesticated camelids in Peru and Chile; perhaps it’s a Southern Hemisphere thing? No matter, they are adorable wherever we find them: placid (unless they’re irritated, then they spit with unerring accuracy), wooly (their coats are prized for their useful fibres), social (more than some humans, one suspects) and, as far as we can tell, carefree.

There’s a lesson here, perhaps. Take it easy, why not?
